brake and seatbelt light staying on

My brake light and seatbelt dummy lights a re on and won't go away. I don't know if it related, but my starter is taking a really long time to start the engine now. It even completely drained my battery last night. Had bettery tested and it is still good.

When I try to start the Jeep, the volt meter drops all the way down. Oh, when that ordeal was going on last night, I touched my positive terminal and it was really hot.

So what do you think all this is? I replaced my terminals reccently and they are getting a little rust and stuff on them. (normal I think). HEELLLPPP

sounds like yo may have a short somewhere, or the alternator is about to go... sometimes low voltage will cause the instrument lights to light when they arent supposed ti.

I'd double check all the connections on the alternator? is it a recent replacement? It's possible to get a bad one, also (not positive, i've never had to replace one on a jeep) theres usually the battery lead and a smalller plug, make sure the plug is fully seated, it as to do with regulating the voltage. (among other things)

ohhhhh doesnt sound good but its a simple fix what ever you just installed you should check to make sure that your getting a good connection, second i would change the starter if its pulling too much power from your battery and the amperage draw is too high it will start burning up wires, make sure that your battery is clean take off the terminals and make sure that there isnt any corrosion in there that sill cause things to get hot, and that should solve ur starting problem, as for the brake light and seat belt lights, check and see if you have a brake bulb out or if your Ebrake switch is good, then check the wires under the seat and the wires that run along the side of the jeep, make sure that none of the wires are frayed or striped and are touching each others, also i see this at work all the time, if you had anything installed reciently, check the wires around that to make sure that you dont have a screw crossing some wires, we get that alot with cell phones, people install cellphones and run screws thru the dash and rite into a bunch or wires, then they come in and ask why half of there dash lights are on, hahaha but other than that if you check everything and its all good you sholdnt have a problem, good luck with your jeep,... :D :D

Thanks guys, I will give those ideas a try and keep you posted. I also recently installed an elec fan intead of manual, but I am almost certain this didn't cause it.

where did you get the power for the fan from??? if anywhere other than directly from the battery, its possible that was the cause...

HMMM, good thinking. It is coming from my under hood fuse box. I am using a tap where the a/c fuse goes. I have no A/C. My radio is there too but that has been there for years and had no problem with it. HHHMMM, got me thinking now.

i once hada low grade short i a toyota... every time i hit the brakes, the airhorn went off.. turns out, the "ground" i used was actually through the brake assy, pedal completed the ground, no the hot side.. point: you never know....
