Well, i got the body of the frame, i cleaned up the inside so there wasnt crap in it. . .there was no carpet so no worries there. IT has some surface rust that needs to be taken care of. Just wondering what my aproach should be, in the end i want to get rid of the rust and proboly the paint, so im down to medal, and then hurculine the inside of the tub. The kit is onsale at checkers for 60 $ so i figure why not. I was also thinking of buying an extra kit and doing the underside of the tub and fenders to prevent and rust . . hoping not to find any. Then i want to paint the outside of the tub along with the hood , grill, and top of fenders. . . possibly a dark purple that looks almost black , not sure yet . . . what you recommend i do. I have access to a sandblaster but i dont know if i want to bust the puppy out . . kinda messy and lots of sand . . . everywhere. IDEAS???

Either some good old fashion sanding ..... this isn't a overnight process take your time enjoy and throw back a couple of cold ones while doing it ...If it is a professional sand blaster becareful on sheet medal ....To strong spells disaster....:) GOOD LUCK

Me a profession . . i dont think so . . . my equipment professional. . . . i highly doubt it. Throw back some cold ones . . . lemme go talk my dad into that one, maybe he'll let me drink underage . . saying im only 16. I'll get myself some dew, close enough. Good ol' fashon sanding takes lots of time and work. . . its 1:35 AM and it is 97 degrees outside . . . the high yesterday was like 118 . . . to damn hot for good ol' fashon work . . Oh well, my jeeps worth every drop of sweat i put into the baby, i just gotta look forward to the outcome , all those lovly days of offroading, GoOdTiMeS. . . .

An angle grinder with a wire wheel worked great for me. My 16 year old son is going to do the inside of his tub next week. We really liked POR 15, for the $ 120 you will spend on herculiner you could probabaly do what you need. The hurculiner will not convert the rust, it will only cover it, it can continue to grow under the herculiner and come back twice as nasty because you will not know it is there until it is really bad. That is why I chose POR 15. But that is just my opinion!

The Possiblity . . . .

Yea, you could just slab some por-15 on there, but its not as durable and as stong as herculiner is. If you get the rust of, and prep the tub well enough, it should do a pro job. Plus it will cost me tons less cuz checkers has got a gallon kit on sale for 60$. I think it'll be a little bit more work, but in the end i think it will look better, and be more durable for my kinda applications.

The best thing you can do is cut the infected areas out, and weld a patch in. POR15 is some amazing stuff, but from experience it is not a 100% fix.
Do not sand blast your jeeps body. The beads or sand or what ever media you are using will cause ripples in the sheet metal fron heat caused by static chage and the force of the media.

The best thing to use and cheapest way to get the paint off is to use a chemical stripper. Usually called aviation stripper. There are a couple of catches though. Must be disposed of properly (not down the sewer drain) must have proper ventilation, and the surface must be horrizontal.

With the amount of rust you say it has and the condition of the body, I would not be surprised if after you stripp the paint, you find some bondo or more rust!

Go the extra mile and do as I plan to to do to tugly. Just work out the rust to the best of your ability then POR15 the sucker after a time take the hurculiner to that. You will get rust relief and the a great finish, the best of both world. You can allow time to lag between if you are short on cash. Just do what you can when you can till you get all the stuff done yo need to do. tug

Yea, not really a fan of alcohal . . . perhaps some day i'll be a nice wholesome alcohalic, but not yet. . . . Anyways, im going out to find an attatchment for my grinder that might take the paint/rust off . . we'll see what i find.
