Axles popping out of 4 wheel

The front axle keeps popping in and out . I changed the vac switch on the transfer case and it still does it . For some reason I have vacuum on both sides of the vacuum switch on the axle so there canceling each other out . Any ideas ???

Still likely a problem with that vacuum switch as you should only have vacuum on one side of the disconnect at a time.

You can always unbolt the disconnect from the axle, slide the shift collar to engaged, and reattach the disconnect upside down. The fork will then hold the shift collar in the engaged position.

i agree with bounty hunter. sister has a 89 wrangler she put on the posi-lock. it does away with the vacum switch for the front axle

Will this hurt the front axle when the transfer case is not engaged into 4 wheel

No. The only downside is that it causes the front driveshaft to spin all the time. This isn't an issue in 2wd unless the driveshaft isn't balanced.

I swear having the driveshaft turn all the time makes the U-joints last longer. When they sit idle they seem to rust up. I always ran my locking hubs (older Jeeps and trucks) "locked" to keep everything moving. Dad always ran his "unlocked" to save gas and his U-joints were forever rusting up. I'm not even so sure he saved any gas. So... I think it's better to run "locked" . I was so glad to see that my TJ had a "solid" axle in it - no vacuum shifter - very simple 4WD system. -John
