Any left foot breakers here?

I was riding in the truck with my Dad's girlfriend the other day, and I noticed that she worked the gas with her right foot, and the brake with her left (it was an automatic). Scared the bejesus out of me - I imagined an emergency where she slammed on the brake and the gas at the same time.

So, is double-footing it common? Anyone here do it?

Lol I find that my Dad, Mom and grand mom do it it annoys the crap out of me....
My grand mom will ride with her foot on the pedal for miles before she realizes it.

There's nothing worse than riding down the highway behind somebody going 60mph with their brake lights on!

I originally learned to drive that way ( before I got my license ) when I used to be in the auto wrecking business as a teen . Drove trucks and cars from auto to manual and back and it just became a bad habit . When I left that job , was driving my (then) 78' jeep cherokee with top loader 4 speed . Left foot was just natural . My dad took it over and I got a car with auto .
had to break the habit , but was aware not to ride the brake . Took a while , but it kicks in .

My buddies wife drives like that...she can not get the hang of a manual because she ride the break. At least it keeps her out of his Jeep;)

Keeps her out of his jeep , problem solved money AND marriage saved ! LoL

I was reading an article that said if you can handle it driving in extremely rough terrain it can be a good idea to drive like that. If your in a situation where it may take half a millisecond to long to break otherwise.

I agree with that in terms of reaction time . They say it take the average person 3/4 of a second to come off the accelerator to the brake . Well , if a person is seasoned , they can brake faster than that so yeah , that would be useful in competition type driving .

When I am out on the rocks I am always using my left foot to work the brakes along with my right on the gas. But I notice that in the city I am using just my right foot. Habit or just two different driving techniques?

I would say it is two different driving techniques . You are obviously aware of your effect on your surroundings and take that responsibly . As a professional driver (bus operator ) , I respect those who take their driving serious . It is not typical today that someone cares enough to think defensively and realize how their place on the road should be one of responsibility , not just of privilege. I respect and appreciate those who responsibly take their driving serious and the safe operation of their vehicle as well

I posed the question in my local boards hardcore section. Now your answer Greg you make me out, sounding like a nice safe driver, on the other hand my ,local club brothers know me personally and know the truth. With various insults like because you drive like ****.....being the nicest. One or two pointed out , most rock crawlers drive two footed because of jeep creep. That happens when you gear your axles so low and add in a 4:1 or deeper crawl kits that no matter how hard you stand on the brakes your jeep creeps off without you.

I guess I was thinking of general driving , on the road , in your personal vehicle . But to many off roaders , their jeep ( or other 4x4 ) is their personal vehicle . Most probably their daily driver too ( or one of ) . Having never driven with you or seen you drive , I would still say that you are conscious of your driving because being aware of your reaction time when having to brake means you most likely do not push to the limit and brake at the last mili second . Your right , only you or anyone who knows your driving would know your habits , but I believe anyone who is conscious of reaction time as I believe you demonstrate can't be all that bad . I will leave it to you since you and others who know and drive with you know better , although , I will take into consideration technique ( rock crawling ) . Not having done rock crawling , only low speed off road in 4 low , I have somewhat of an understanding that control is first priority . One second applying throttle , next second braking or you may risk a turn over or bottoming out and damage .
The ratio rock crawlers use for their rigs sounds a lot like the low gearing in multi axle high cubic yard dump trucks . Never drove one with mega tons of course gravel , but heard they are difficult to slow from road speed and a mother to stop ! Tried my hand on tractors (b61 & U600 Mack ) before I held a license in my auto wrecking days as a teen . That's where I began to learn and appreciate finesse at handling slow speed and heavy load , rpm and gearing up and down .
This was all in the yard , never got a chance to get it on the road . Didn't exactly have permission from the boss either . Sometimes we just took responsibility into our own hands believing we know what has to be done and we know how to do it . But I found I appreciate using the tractor as a machine more than just a straight drive . I can understand why someone enjoys and prides them self at control and operating such a vehicle . I still believe your a good driver .
Jeepz.com has responsible people in its ranks and especially at the top .

I brake for left foot breakers !
Yeah , will someone please tell them to make up their mind ? Either your braking or accelerating , not both ! We're a republic (if that means anything)!
