Whats up ya'll, I just purchased my first jeep. Its a 79' CJ7 with an AMC 360 V8. I'm not really looking to rebuild it, but would like to have some idea of what I'm looking at when the hood is up. Does anyone know where I can get a good book on the engine? Or does anyone just know a bunch about the engine itself? Thanks a bunch!!

I've had good success with the Haynes and Chilton's manuals you pick up in your local parts store. Although they won't be able to tell you everything you will need ot know, they are at least a place to start

I took a look at those books and they didn't really look familiar..but I will research some more. Thanks!

The best book on Jeeps on the planet was written by Moses Ludel. Moses, as his name implies, is a Jeep Prophet & Oracle.

His book the 'Jeep Owners Bible' is available most anywhere that speaks 4x4, even your Jeep dealer.

It's usually about $29. Not a whole lot more than the $17 you'd have to pay for a Chilton or Haynes paperback manual.

Moses updated the bible regularly and has done so again just recently to include Jeeps latest.

I expect he is tearing apart a new
JEEP LIBERTY as we speak and adding chapters for the next edition of the bible.

While the jeep owners bible is a great book, I don't think it'll help you out too much with your engine.

AMC never put a 360 into a stock CJ, so a haynes or chilton manual that is CJ specific is not going to be of much help to you. The 360s went into wagoneers, full size cherokees and j-trucks. So you might want to look for a haynes or chiltons manual for those models to get the low down on your 360.

Good Luck!
