94 Wrangler ECU

I have a 94 Wrangler with the 2.5 and manual transmission. I inadvertently rerouted my wiring harness when I replaced the intake/exhaust manifold gasket and in turn the harness melted to the ex. man. I am trying to locate a used ECU and was wondering if it is important to only use ECUs that have like part numbers or if there are compatible numbers for each. The number on mine are 56028289 with a date of 6/17/94. I am also looking for a TBI for a 4.0 to do an upgrade from stock. (that idea came from this board) I apologize for my ignorance, I'm a newcomer to the jeep community and am not yet up to speed on the whole CJ YJ TJ identifiers. I have already gotten alot of good info from these boards and am excited to be learning as I go. I have alot of experience with 4wd vehicles having done lift kits, repairs and high performance applications in the past, just haven't done much with Jeeps. My wife told me this was the start of a mid-life crisis. That can't be since I am at least 20 years away from mid life. Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

You can try an ECU from a '91-'95 2.5L 5spd and it may work, but your best bet is to stick with the '94 or even '95.

You can run a 4.0L throttle body but to get the most bang for your buck consider one of my 62mm throttle bodies. It's a straight through bore that eliminates the taper beneath the throttle plate, greatly improving throttle response. Only $95+ refundable core charge.

I ran both the 56028289 and 56028298 (not 100% sure on the numbers, but I do remember the last 2 numbers were reversed on the original and the replacement ECU) in mine without issues; IIRC, the latter one came from a '95 (bought off eBay for about $50).

Found an ECU on ebay numbered 56028828 dated 10/17/94 from a 95 Wrangler 2.5, MT. I feel as if this should do the trick, any opinions? Bounty hunter, jfrabat?
Bounty Hunter, looking at your avatar, are you in law enforcement or similar?

Also would like to purchase one of the 62mm throttle bodies but need to get her back on the road first.

Bounty Hunter, 120.00 on the ECU. I'm an instructor with my department here in Ga. Where did u get the avatar, I'm looking for something similar for another application.

Ended up just buying a Cardone reman. ECU through autozone for 177.The same unit was much higher at any other retailer. Should have just went that route to start with. Bounty Hunter, can you send me details on what I need to do to buy one of your throttle bodies and does anyone have an opinion on MSD or Accel high output ignition systems? I've already done the cold air and electric fan swaps and still looking for more. Thanks again for everyone's input.

I had the accel coil, and swithced to a Performance Distributors' system. Now my plugs are gapped to .060" and I do feel a bit more power from the 4 angry squirrels!
