I recently got a 1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4WD. Got it dirt cheap because the Jeep could not move forward or backwards. Dropped the pan and changed the filter and fluid. Was able to move forward, but seems to be stuck in 4WD. It seems the 4wd is trying to disengage but wont. Reverse does not work. I am looking for another transmission but am not sure if there is a simpler fix (less expensive too)! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best swap is a 727 from a '80 to '91 Grand Wagoneer, but you won't have O/D and you need to mod the shifter for the tcase and shorten front, lengthen rear driveshafts. Or put in an AW4 from an XJ and run it like a manual trans (93 ZJs came with them)
