does anyone think 152.000 is alot of miles on a 4.0 maybe thats the problem
heard its a lot of wor but was told you ca do a 350 chevy swap any ideas what i should do keep 4.0 or try the chevy swap on my cherokee:rolleyes:

I really don't... What year are we talking here? My 4.0 is a 2000, just turned over 112,000 miles, the only things I've had to replace as far as the engine is concerned were an alternator (fried off-roading), and o2 sensors. Oil changes every 3/3000, serpentine belt every other year or so (as needed), air filter when it needs it, spark plugs ever 100,000...

It's running like the day I bought it, turn the key, and it GOES. As far as I've heard, the 4.0s are known for their longevity.

4.0 not even broke in yet until 150K.:D

I can't tell you how many people I've been in contact with running over 200K with no major problems, just bolt on stuff like starters etc.

Unless it's been neglected or abused, thats not a lot of miles.

Like 90 said, not a problem if it's been regularly maintained. Bolt-on type stuff will need replaced occasionally on ANY vehicle, but if your engine has been regularly maintained, who knows when she'll blow???!!

I'm hopin' for 400k-500k out of my 4banger!!!!

I'd do a little research. Most hardcore dudes when faced with the option stick with the 4.0. Personally, I think there's a cool factor in getting a 6 cyl engine to outperform 350s and V8s. Anyone can plop a 350 into a rig, but how about a kick-ass straight 6!

I'd make a pro con list, and choose that way.

Research what the weight of each engine is. What the cost of installing a new 350 is in terms of time and money.

List as many pros and cons you can think of for each engine.

Think of any other options ie Boring/Stroking the 4.0.

Weigh whether the gains are worth the trouble for all of the scenarios.

Every project is a personal choice, and obviously your resources, knowledge and needs are different than ours.
Are you going to Rock Crawl, trail, pre-run, long distance excursions, haul, etc.

If it runs, use it and abuse it. If it dies, go to the junkyard and get another one. They have to be a dime a dozen.
If you were talking a 350, are you talking carb or EFI. I would take and EFI 4 banger over a carbed 350 any day. Besides, 350 swap in a Cherokee is probably not very easy. I'm sure it has been done quite a bit, but would be a challenge under the cherokee hood.

keep the 4.0 i'm not no where near an expert but it sounds like some thing in the computer is fried, if i had the choice to build a l-6 or a v8 small block i'd choose the six.

well this jeep is going to get beat on bad iam from up of mich and that is all i do is off road like grazy mud crall i do anything my rigs can and then some i also have a 71 chevy shrt box 4x4 12 inch lift and 502 big block with 44 super swamrers it all about off road so best thing for me is easy trail fixes and i now alot about chevy motors that is why i was thinking about the swap

I love the 4.0, but I love V8s better. I like what you're thinking man... can't beat cubic inches.

Isn't a 350 tight in there?
What about front suspension, would you have to change springs for the heavier motor?

It's a common swap, Ive seen a couple done... there is a guy on here Firemanharry that has put one in his. The downside is you gotta put a transmission in there that will handle the power. I don't think the springs need to be changed, not sure though. Any thoughts Firemanharry?
