My 1998 Jeep GC started overheating this weekend.........the stat and water pump look ok...............if the cap is good what could it be............can the radiator be clogged some what preventing flow???

Please help.

i just serviced the coolant on my 97 TJ 4.0L and the coolant was full of all sorts of crap, enough debris that i changed it again and had it flushed.

if it hasn't been serviced in a long time i'm sure it's clogged up.

After i serviced the coolant the heater got 50% hotter which is a sign that my heater core was clogged up.

good luck

They do clog up after time. as your radiator flows debris likes to get trapped on the bottom around the inner part of the neck. One good way to flush it at home is to empty your radiator and of course recycle the fluid, and run water through the bottom tube up into the radiator. This does take a little time but used in conjunction with a good flush product should get your radiator cleaned out pretty well.

I just let it run to op temp............went a little past 210...........the hose coming off the stat was making some bumping / chuging sounds and when I held my hand on the hose I could feel it throb...........I wonder if the stat is not opening all the way or something.

Also the top of the radiator was hotter than the bottom...........and the other day reservior tank was bubbling when I let it run up to temp........I wonder what that's all about???

Drain and flush the system, and highly consider replacing the thermostat. Then report back to us on the condition.

Looks like it was the T-Stat or cap changed both and it's running below op temp..................got a fan shroud for it also as it didn't have one when I got it..........gonna flush the system and stick the shroud on it tomorrow............thanks again for all the help everyone.
