1956 CJ5 Build

Thanks! I am very happy with how it has turned out so far, with the exception of my Ross steering box. It leaks like crazy and i can not isolate the cause. Oh well. I will just keep adding gear oil until i figure it out.

Further additions.

I'll bet you it's an bad seal. As far as I know the only way to tell what seal is bad is by opening it up and finding the seal that looks the most mashed and corroded. Did it come with the cj?

More pictures. Spraying the hood tomorrow.

Other than the hood i just need to wire up the speedometer lights and misc gauges. I can not find the plastic brackets that hold the light bulbs so that finishing touch is taking some time.

You may have to get new gauges. Idk about finding the bracket alone.

Question for ya. Are you putting in a stereo or cd deck? If so, how are you mounting it?

I have brand new gauges. It came with empty holes in the back for the light bulbs but no way to install them. No immediate plan for a stereo.

You should be able to twist and lock it into that hole

Not without the hardware. The bulbs go into a plastic socket that locks in place behind the speedometer.

I just completed installing all windshield wiper components and it all works fairly well. I know my windshield is not correct for a 50's CJ5 but i dont mind having power wipers. Additionally, I started working on a disc brake upgrade for the Dana 27. I ran into some trouble trying to mount the hubs to the rotors. The directions call for pressing the new wheel studs through the rotors and hub from behind the rotor but the holes are not big enough.

Slow going with the disc upgrade. I have the hub, rotor and caliper mounted on one side. I am ready to put on the new locking hub but am unsure what torque rating the axle spindle nut needs to be torqued to. It is not covered in my repair manual. Any ideas? Dana 27 up front.

Impressive build ! A honey of a jeep ! Just awesome ! The front rotor kit looks like cj7 parts so it ought to be as 69jeepcj says , 50 ft. Lbs. preload . Spindles and bearings most likely spec to cj7 so that would be good I would say to . The book does call for 50 . Sure will stop great in traffic ! Enjoy and best of luck with it !
