'ello every one, I was out doing my boring fridaynight thing... PAWN SHOPPING.... and came across a nice 12-string Fender acoustic... no price (must mean it's free ) I asked the guy (20 some year old) behind the counter for a price, he wasn't sure so he started looking on his computer, I told my wife "If it's under $200 I want it!"..... about 20min later he told me he couldn't find it in there and told me he give it to me for $180... some hard Hmmm's and Uhhh's later I told him $130 because it had a lot of little dings in it... it didn't , he went to talk to the manager and couldn't find him and I ended up with it for a total of $140.... I got some new strings and it's all tuned up.... now what do I play? I know how to play a 12-string, I just want some cool sounding songs... I know Tangerine-Led Zeppelin, The First Cut Is The Deepest-Sheryl Crow.... YEAH RIGHT, AS IF... Cat Stevens rocks!, Give a Little Bit-Super Tramp... and some others.... what, if any songs do you know of for a 12-string?

Over the hills and far away is what I remember my friend Tim playing on his 12 string. Nothing sounds quite like one.

What a steal!

Don't know if you finger-pick or not, but I always loved "The Wedding Song" by Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul, and Mary) played on a 12-string. I bought the one I have strictly for that song. But it's a great rhythm instrument no matter what you play. Such full, rich chords!! Play whatever you like and enjoy!!!

I can't belive I got it, I've been playine "Over the hills.." it's hard to tell witch set of strings I'm playing, they're real close together... I'm used to only 6 strings... but I'm learning... I might tune it to an open E and use it as my slide guitar like Leadbelly (1920's slide guitarist)... I dunno witch one is gonna be the slide guitar yet.... The Mrs. got a little bit of the guitar bug in'er, now she wants one too.... the necks are too wide on my 3... good for my spider-like fingers... not for her little sausage link-fingers :D

Ain't nothin' sweeter than a tuned 12 string ringin' 8)

"Goin' to California" by Zeppelin. "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. Incedently, speaking of Kansas, my high school music teacher was in the band when he was a student at Emporia State University and actually helped write "Dust in the Wind". The intro was actually a finger-picking exercise one of the other band member's wife's had made up for them. When the band decided to go "pro", my teacher didn't think they'd do very well, and decided to stay in college and get his music degree.....last I heard, he was selling furniture. Poor guy...it's a wonder he doesn't just shoot himself in the head.

find John Butler and get some of his music. he finger picks( a lot of 12 string stuff) conception and execution of his music can be pretty hard, but fun to play.
