well if your unsure of the oil i would go with thw 10w but incase they were using synthetic do another in about 100k and well as far as how far between ill stick to every 4-5000 k keep the engine clean and free of varnishes.rust on the dipstick is a sure sign of condensation usualy formed...

I have had this problem and i had to try several diferent rebuilt starters because when the rebuild them because they machune the mating surface they dont seem to do it very acurateley then i still had to play with the shims .last time i found one that worked i took the measurement on thickness...
