How do I take the doors off?

Hi there! I loooove my new Wrangler!! I have a "duh" question, so don't laugh. I wanted to take the doors off last weekend, but we couldn't figure out how to do it. It looks like the bolt should just lift out, but it couldn't be loosened. Wghat are we doing wrong? Thanks for helping a dumb girl!

On the top hinge there is a nut on the bottom of the bolt. Take that off, and pull the door up and it should slide right out. Sometimes the door is difficult to remove if they havn't been taken out in a while, so when you put them back in be sure to put some grease on the pins.

I think the dealership has a special wrench you can buy to keep from scratching the paint on the door nut. It can also be used in adjusting the loose nut behind the wheel Welcome to jeepz.

Waterlocked part II - More Problems!

Dont forget the all important wiggle. Once you get the bolt out you might have to wiggle the door a little bit while pulling up. Dont laugh it helps!

once doors are removed do not forget to pull the fuse for the interior lights otherwise you will drain the battery and driving at night will suck..
also your local laws may require side mirrors for your jeep and since your mirrors are mounted on the door you will have to modify them. many a company sells mirror relocation brackets.

I took the nuts off my doors the first summer I had the Jeep and they haven't been put back on since. I don't even know where they are now. In my '01 you don't have to worry about draining the battery with the dome light because it automatically shuts off after a few minutes when the key is off. When you pull the fuse it'll be off all the time (this is better), however, if you drive with your headlights on during the day and forget they're on there is no idiot alarm when you turn the key off and this will most definetly drain your battery.

I never had the nuts for mine either. I just scrapped them and it made it soooo much easier!! No tools required then!

Last summer my doors came off pretty easily. Last weekend, my son and I went for a drive and when I tried to take off the doors, they wouldn't budge. I sprayed a bit of WD40 on the pins, worked the door back and forth while lifting and they came right off. On my YJ, all I have to do is pull the wire connector off the back of the light switch in the kick panel. Also pulled the wire right next to it to keep that annoying "Your Keys Are in the Ignition" buzzer quiet....never have put that one back on. Pulling my keys is habit for me anyway.

My nuts came off the first time and never went back either. The wigle is important as all get out, especialy when putting them back on. My drivers door doesnt' line up well. It makes me so mad sometimes. Grease and a wiggle and your in though.

P.S. Check your states legal laws for rearview mirrors. My state requires two so I had to get mirrors that stick on the side of the jeep.

I ususally take one leg and push up under the door, hitting it a few times with my knee. This along with pushing upwards and wiggling with the window down gets it off.

That's what I had to do. After like one spraying of WD40, and 5 applications of PB Blaster, it finally came off after I just about gave myself a hernia.

What I had to do, is get a concrete block and use that as a step. From there it was all calf muscle. It was, for some reason, rusted as all get out.

Mingez, weren't you the one asking if PB Blaster hurts the vehicles paint in any way?

Either way, did it hurt the paint (if any even got on it)??

No sir, but just incase I cut a slit thru some newspaper and slipped the hinge thru so as to protect the body paint. Plus, I didn't go crazy with the spraying. I tried to be accurate with where it went. But the paint on the hinges were just fine.
