You aren't supposed to pull the knobs off. You'll never get them back on as well again, and if your controls are has hard to move as mine, they won't stay on when you pull them. The aftermarket ones don't seem to be tough enough... I have gone through a few vent cables b/c the knob pops off...

I use ceramic. Work well for me, and that was stock on my 00 XJ. There's nothing wrong with turning the rotors. There is a minimum rotor thickness specified for each vehicle. Any reputable brake shop and the Jeep dealer will turn a set of rotors rather than put a new set on if the thickness...

The auto transmission and Quadratrac transfer case were not offered from the factory on the CJ5. Otherwise, drivetrain options should be the same as CJ7s of the same year.

I wouldn't grind the rocker. If you don't mind appearances for now and its just a little bit, maybe you can beat the valve cover out with a hammer. Or like you said, cut it up and weld in a patch piece. Better make sure its not hitting anywhere else as your engine turns over.

My daily driver is a completely stock 00 XJ. Its seen some farm trails and mud. When its nice out, my daily driver becomes my 79 CJ-7. Its seen light trail use and many sunny days since I rebuilt it 2 years ago.

That quadratec listing is what I have. You might be able to find them cheaper on ebay. Just look for jeep speaker boxes, or something similar.
