'97 tj a/c

I have a '97 TJ with an air problem. The problem is that when the air is on low it blows through the defroster and I have to increase the speed of the blower motor to get the air blowing trhough the front vents. Sometimes that isn't enough and it just continues blowing throught he defroster vents.

From what i have searched...the problem seems to be related to a vacuum issue. But since often times it corrects when I turn the speed up, could it be related some something else?

Also, i have noticed down here in the FLA heat that in the afternoon, it takes about 10 minutes for the air to start blowing cool. But when it starts blowing cool, it is cold! Could this be a dirty orifice tube? If so, what can I do to clean it?

Thanks for the help!

Do your defroster work by them selves?

The arm on the vac motor to turn the flap for the defroster on my tj is broke and if I turn the fan up it closes the flap fro mthe force of air even if I have the defroster on.Lower speeds dont have the air flow to close the flapper. Some where to start looking at.

Check the Vac. lines going thru the firewall and the vac. reservoir line located under the battery. check it for cracks.

50% of the time yes. This morning the main air vents worked without any issue, but as soon as I turned on the defroster, it stopped coming out the main air vents and only came out of the floor vents.

I have not had a chance to look at the vac lines yet. Is it possible for the vac reservoir to go bad, or does it sound more like the lines connecting the 2. And if it is the Vacuum line, is this something that I would have to buy at the dealer, or just get something from NAPA?

Thanks for the help!

If you find a cracked section on the plastic vacuum line to the reservoir, you can buy a rubber vac. line from NAPA that will snugly fit over the plastic line and use that to do a splice repair.. The reservoir rarely goes bad or leak..
