YJ lift

I have now saved up enough money to buy a lift kit for my YJ. I already have the 31 x 10.5 MTR waiting to be put on alond with 1" shackles. So now my question is what lift to buy and how high. I want to spend as llittle as possible on this lift but I also need it to be durable. I really dont offroad that hard or even that often because I am in college and dont have the time but I do have to drive on the highway a lot. What do you all suggest?

Well, if your target tire size is 31", I would suggest only a 2"-2.5" lift kit. The best 2" kit for the money is Old Man Emu, but it's $900. Rubicon Express makes a nice 2" kit for $500. Then there's the Rough Country 3" kit. The RC kit is the cheapest but probably not the best for durability. Plus, if you do the 3" kit, you wont want to use those shackles. You'll have too much space for those little 31's.

Tug has a picture of his old YJ with the 3" kit and 31 Baja Claws. Maybe he'll post it for you so you can see what it looks like. I stand by my Hell Creek Suspension kit, but it's a 4" kit and will make the 31's look dinky. If I had to go with one final answer, I'd say Rubicon Express 2.5" lift, standard duty. Here's a link to the install: http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/reyj25lift/

Hope that helps,
C

Yes you can get lifts for around $400+shipping, but...

I just spent the last month looking at lifts for my XJ and for a friend's YJ. I believe this to be the best deal for running 31's on a YJ combining quality, price, and components:

Rubicon Express 2.5" lift for $499 shipped w/ Dotsch Tech 3000 shocks (excellent shocks) sway bar discos, etc etc etc:

That's a DEAL if you ask me!

That is a rough country 3" kit with 31 x 11.5 claws bought the kit from FollowMyRuts.com and have not found a better deal anywhere. Flexed good and rode pretty good. I had flat lined springs prior to the lift so the 3" lift gave me nearly 6" all said and done. tug
