:???: i have a late 95 yj with a 2.5L, ax5, i recently bought the advanced adapters adapter plate to convert the ax5 bell housing to fit an ax15 BUT it needs to have the external slave, i just got some info on a 1994 ax15 but i don't want to buy it if it wont fit, so does the 94 ax15 have the external slave? :???:

It 'should' have the external slave, '94 was the first year. But as with anything Jeep, a lot depends on the build date and what parts they had left over from the previous model year. It 'should' but I would definitely request pics or otherwise confirm.

yeah, i guess thats all i can do, I've heard mixed things about the 1994 and i know what you mean about the build date I'm PRETTY sure i have a 96 i have a few tj parts but if it wont work im thinking maybe rebuild the ax5. my 5th gear went which I have heard happens a lot?

Went as in it's completely gone? 5th is like neutral?

I've had that happen a few times, simply a clip on a shaft that keeps 5th gear in place. A transmission shop can replace the clip easy enough but it's likely to happen again unless you replace all the synchronizers. Removing and installing the transmission yourself will save a bundle on a rebuild.

yeah 5th is GONE, but you said if i replace the synchronizers, it SHOULD not happen again? im really looking to get it up again running fairly solid for a little as i can but with out skimping out TOO much and the ax5 has held up to a lot already and if i can fix it it might be cheaper then getting a used or rebuilt t-case for the ax15. i really dont have many people local to talk with about this and a few trans places lust look at me stupidly when i bring this up as thay mainly deal with import cars i guess. i thank you(s) very much for helping me.

Kenneth,

I have an AX5 sitting in my garage. I replaced it with a SM465 for the granny gear for crawling. I believe the AX5 is still in good condition, never had any problems with it. There are about 130kish miles on it. The transmission is in Denver, Co (80227).

I just want it gone because it is taking up room. Find out what it would cost to have your rebuilt vs pulling one from a junk yard vs shipping on mine and which ever is cheapest go with that.

Bacon's transmission will work, just reuse your '95 bellhousing and input bearing cover in order to retain the external clutch slave.
