yellow hot wire

Desperate need of any assistance. I've been attempting to install an aftermarket sound bar. Didnt have the right connectors so direct wired it out of radio, speakers worked fine. Pressed my luck by trying to wire the dome light. Spliced into the light right above the pedals thinking that it would work just like that light when the door was open, after that the light above the pedals stopped working as did the radio, put a tester light on the yellow wire into the radio its not hot anymore nor is the yellow side of the light above the pedals. I checked the fuses, and checked the inline yellow fuse that goes to the radio, they were all fine.
Thanks for any help, at this point I've got almost the whole dash torn out of the jeep.

I think there is a set of fuses inside your jeep and also under the hood of the jeep, they will be in a black box. Did you check fuses at both places. most hot wires are red, but its been years since I put a radio in so things may have changed. Seems like I never connected the yellow wire or maybe it was a white one(cant remember) If i remember the yellow was for a power antena or the radio lights. You may have hooked a hot wire to a ground. another thing it may be is a fusible link. Dont know if the new jeeps have them but the jeeps in the 80's did. A fusible link is like a fuse that is built into a wire, they are hard to find.(for me anyway) Oh, another thing, some radios have a fuse on the back side of the radio??
I think its got to be a fuse, or fusible link somewhere. I really doubt you fried anything

If it is an aftermarket radio, the yellow wire off the back of the radio is constant 12 volt red is switch 12 volt and black is ground. Power antenna is blue and white and blue is remote line.

it sounds to me that you blew a fuse. the door triggers (what turns on the interior lights) are a Negative trigger meaning the light bulds have a constant 12 volts supplied to the buld, when the neg connction is made, the light turns on. sounds like you connected a negative from the dome light to the positive that goes directly to the bulb, hense shorting the circuit.

Ideally you will want to test the dome light to ensure proper function. if function is adequate, then you will need to test for the triggers. seeing as we have no knowledge of what jeep your installing this in, really can't go forward.

As for fusable links, I can not think of any OBDI or OBDII vehicle with fusable links, most run a maxi fuse under the hood due to simplicity of replacing.

Thanks so much, it was a fuse under the hood by the battery. I had checked behind the glovebox but never thought about the ones under the hood. Ive decided i'd let my brother hook up the dome light who is a little more experienced with this stuff. The soundbar sounds great. My jeep is a 99 TJ.
