I was looking at a previous post, it showed that the transfer case gets its vacume from the manifold on my 88 4.2 5spd, I cant find where the vacume line is or where it should be can someone shed some light, because I pulled my shift motor off this morning since I didnt have to work, put a hand vacume pump on it and everything works with that off I checked my fork and it seems to move fine too, I not geting the 4x4 light on my dash board also, where is the switching point does it come on when the vacume is applyed to the front diff, or when there is vacume felt at the transfe, on my 91 its almost instant, as soon as you pull it into 4 wheel drive so I never checked. thanks

Hmm well I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. Here is Bounty Hunter's diagram if that helps.

You may just have to trace the lines from the Tcase and shift motor to find out. It shouldnt be too hard. Oh yeah one more thing...the lines are very small. About 1/8 or smaller...they almost look like wiring.

yea i printed that, what i am trying to say the vacume hose that comes off of the manifold is M.I.A i looked and looked and didnt see it or where it goes into the manifold at which is bad, and for the switch i was waundering if the light comes on when there is a vacume at the t-case or is that vacume always there, or when there is a vacuum at the front diff. Hope i made since this time some times I dont always type what i am thinking skip a word here and there and when i re read i insert the word with out knowing sorry :-?

You should be able to get manifold vac from a port just to the right of the EGR valve. There should be a port there along with a hose that goes to the brake booster. The vacuum advance on the dist. should be manifold vacuum you could tee into that. [addsig]

Thanks for that diagram, I have the same issue (shift fork does not move, motor works (holds vacuum). Now I will trace every vac line for this, since here in NE PA, we could almost 6" by nightfall, and I have no 4wd![addsig]

Where can i get the piece that is attached to the xcase where the vaccum lines hook up? two of the little prongs broke off the other day and its losing vaccum and the front axel wont engage

Honestly I dont know quik...did you try like autozone or napa? If anything you could get one from a scrapped 231 at a salvage yard. That part is the vacuum switch...you should be able to find a replacement without too much trouble. Try the dealer ONLY as a last resort...I bet you will pay out the ass for it there.

Have a question,on my 93 wrangler the front axle will not disengage from 4wd, after going form 4 high to 2 high. ive checked the transfer case and all is well. i was wondering if the vacume may have something to do with this?[addsig]

Marc,
Try looking at the firewall behind the Charcoal canister (or near the heater core coolant hoses). On my XJ the red vacuum source line for the T-case plugs into a tee there. Like the diagram above shows, the indicator light switch gets vacuum from another tee in that same area which then feeds the front axle motor.

Quik,
If you talking about the Transfer case vacuum switch, I got mine from the dealership for about $20. The switch unscrews from the t-case, easy to replace.

Why don't you save yourself a future headache
and just break down and buy a 4x4 posi-lock cable???
It is the best thing I have done...... :-D [addsig]
