I have been told that possibly i can use the mechanical speedometer gear housing with associated cable and gear as used in pre 1991 Wranglers and Cherokees on my 97 TJ Wrangler to work with the mechanical gauges i am putting in as the computer is blown in the vehicle. Anyone know if this will work?

Yes, you can. You'll need the correct VSS to attach to the transfer case output and the correct length speedo gear.

Why work so hard? Mount a small garmin gps on the dashboard. Works great. If your speedo doesn't have the right gear set in the case it won't be right anyway

Are you planning on not running a computer (ecu right?) at all? Are we talking carburetor, or will it still be fuel injected?
