Which carrier

I am needing to replace my carrier assembly in my D35. I found one at a friends shop but I am not sure if it will work for my diff. I know there is a break in the ratios where you can not use the ring gear from one to the other. I have a 3.55 and I am wondering how to tell if the carrier I found will work or not. Sadly it is not in a diff so I can not just look at the tag and see if I can use it. Any suggestions?

I believe there is only one D35 carrier that jeep offered. you might be thinking of D44, there is a carrier change at 4:11 gear set. I am not positive though.

I have done a little looking around and I have seen that there is a carrier break between the 3.31 / 3.55 ratios. If going from a ratio at one side of that break to the other a new carrier will be required.I just have not been able to find how to identify the different carriers.

I had to look it up, and you were spot on

part# 43218 standard open differential carrier. For use on Dana 35-C axles with a gear ratio of 3.55 and higher without ABS

part# 43219 standard open differential carrier. For use on Dana-C axles with a gear ratio of 307 to 331 with out ABS

I have the 3.55 With trac lok and ABS. I may have found the part I need but I do not know how to tell the two apart. Is there a marking on the body of the carrier that would signifiy which is which? I found one at my friends shop in great shape but I do not know if it is the low gear carrier or the high gear carrier. I do not want to put it in just to discover it is wrong. I would look on the Diff tag but it is just the carrier sitting on a work bench.
