What type of coolant does my used Wrangler have in it?!

Recently bought a 2002 Wrangler which is very low on coolant.
After reading all this HOAT stuff how do I know what coolant is in the Jeep now? (Don't want to put HOAT type in if previous owner had non-HOAT in it - or vice versa!!)
Current coolant appears to be light green color - like Prestone maybe?
Is HOAT coolant always red/pink?

Confused,
Rob

You should have the Dex cool, orange , or G-05 type for Chrysler.

Green usually indicates a 3yr. coolant which is wrong for your application. In the early 98 and to current, the orange color coolant is used on all the Chrysler products which is a 5yr 100,000 mile coolant. If you want to switch it back to the orange coolant, make sure you flush your cooling system throughly. In the past test with mixing the two types of coolants yielded a bad result from a gel like substance that formed in the small water jackets in the aluminum cylinder heads and caused an overheat condition on the engine.

The OEM stuff will be a red orange.

You might as well get a fresh start. Drain the system, flush it well, and then refill with OEM fluid or something you know meets specs. I think Valvoline makes fluid that meets specs. Be wary of any of the discount fluids that say they can go into any vehicle. Over the life of the Jeep, coolant is a small investment even if you pay the Dealer's usuary price for OEM coolant.

The only place I could find HOAT fluid was at the dealer, for $20 a gallon. I bought two gallons and flushed my radiator well with distilled water and replaced the coolant.
