my mom told me for christmas i could sell my jeep and she would buy me a z71 or something i like around 11 grand or depending on what my jeep sold for. i told her i could sell it around 4000 and she said that she would give me 11000 to spend. I dont want to get ride of it. What all could be done to it with 7-8000 dollars? how much for chevy v8, rubicon suspension, etc? what do ya'll recommend? thanks in advanced

When you're done spending the $8000 you'll still have a 17 year old jeep with about $12,000 dumped in it. Sell the '87, pick you up a '95 4.0L YJ if you wanna stick with YJ's, then you'll still have $5000 for mods, which should set you up very well.

Or keep the '87 and buy an XJ for road duties.

Depends on what you want to do with your vehicle. A Z71 can be used for camping, hauling, towing, hunting, whatever. A good all around truck and can do some light offroading. It will never be a Jeep though. The Jeep will always be a more trail ready vehicle, but the Z71 is a tough, all purpose, dependable truck. You just have to do some soul searching.

4.0 head on a 4.2 engine/Info on rearend swap

i just love my jeep. the open wind. the night air with the top off. the way people stare. i am real attached to it. she doesnt run the best but i am in love with her. its the only vehicle i care to own. its the best all around vehicle u can buy. i figure a new engine would do her good. plus a new hardtop and full steel doors. maybe a extra pair of boots.and a radio. i wont put all of the money in it. WHAT ARE SOME GOOD UPGRADES I COULD DO??

If you want V8 power I would go with a 401(if you can find one in good shape). Chevy and Ford offer many engine aftermarket but you gotta change drivetrain or buy adapter and new mounts. I don't know what engine you got, but their are a lot of goodies now for 4.0, even a blower. Sounds like you got plenty tire, maybe more sophisticated suspension for serious articulation and still have money to buy Mom something nice.

im thinking of the 4.3 vortec v6. rubicon suspension and maybe some 18s with all terrains and good sound system

first off....that carbed motor has to go, 4.0 would be a very nice and easy to do swap. personally i would do that before the v8 swap. the 4.0 is not "real" bad on gas and puts out a decent amount of horsepower. its also cheaper to buy and maintain. a chevy 4.3 would be nice too but there is more work involved in that. if you have the peugot transmission it might be a good time to upgrade since you have the money. load it up with tuffy stuff, console, glove box, etc... also might be a good time to think about the future of your jeep since you want to keep it. have the frame sandblasted and coated if it needs it. winch is a must...get a good one with all that money.

you know what, close your eyes...open up a quadratec mag. and start pointing at stuff.

true its an old jeep, but if your attached you might as well fix that one up and keep it for a long time. there is an old guy that lives down the road from me that still drives the same cj that he bought back in the 60's. i asked him why he dont sell it and get a newer one, he said because its MY jeep no one elses.

if you want 18s you better plan on runnign 37s also.....

I think that you should sell your jeep and purchase a newer jeep with the 4.0 fuel injected motor.or swap in a newer 4.0.You will need it to power large tires.A good start would be like bounty said, buy a newer jeep 94 95ish 4.0, and modify from there. If you plan on doing any serious wheeling in the jeep, you should probably replace the rear axle on that baby, maybe throw in a 9 inch or something along those lines.I think that there are better mods than converting a leaf sprung jeep to coils, like lockers, gears, axles, ect. But you do what you want.

I agree with Bounty and Sully. I'm sure your Jeep is special, but I'm sure your mother is giving you the money or the truck because she wants you to have a dependable mode of transportation. Sell your Jeep;let somebody else that cannot afford a newer Jeep enjoy it and get yourself a 95 or so YJ. It will be a lot more dependable, and it is still a Jeep. Your investment will hold its value a lot better than whatever money you put into your older Jeep. Just my 2cents.-al

i wish i had a family like that when i graduated... anyway though... i agree with them... sell the jeep.. buy a 95 or such, or even a tj... get the same color and all that, and the only difference you'll know is that it is better... i know how it is to fall in love with a jeep... but the truth is, its not gonna last forever, and you'll have to get rid of it some time... best do it now when its being paid for

Now just hold on there a minute. You want to put 18's on a Jeep? You obviously have issues that need professional help. I'm not up on my G'ed up rims but I suspect that by the time you bought them and some tires they would be worth more than the whole Jeep. Sell it and get yourself a rice burner if that's what you want.
