Yeah, i got a street jeep, cj-7, doin a 4.0 5 speed conversion with ac and the whole enchilada. What 2.5" lift will be the best in ride and handling. Superlift, Rubicon, etc. please help its been 20 years since my last cj. chucker

If you only desire a 2.5 for a "street jeep" (jps is crying and chuckling all ay once) I would suggest something along the lines rancho. A bit on the expensive side, But the ride will be more tolerable. If you want something that is stiff, I have heard that the rough country provides a stiff ride. Also another option would be to add a rear sway bar from a TJ. see if you can modify it to fi on your cj. Regardless of the lift types, this will improve handling, as well as a set of adjustable. coil overs (which are direct bolt-ins.)

If you want ride quality over everything else I have three words for ya:

Old Man Emu

They're second to none in that department.

Now that I answered that, tell me, what the heck is a street Jeep anyway?

Anyone get thier 2003 Holiday Quad Jeep Essentials Magazine?

A street jeep is lowered and has purple neon lights under it.
Why would you want to lift something that pure and beautiful?

I have the Old Man Emu springs on my jeep and I like them. They ride good, it's not bouncy and they give good articulation off road. They're probably one of the most expensive kits out there but if you're looking for ride quality it's worth it. On the other hand, I've been in other friends jeeps with other kinds of lifts and there isn't a huge difference. You have to figure out if that added comfort is worth the extra money. Different kinds of shocks make a world of differece too. Too stiff and you feel every bump, too soft and you're bouncing and swaying all over. Get a shock that's good for your size and weight of tire.

Laugh all you want but believe it or not there's acutally some people out there with more money than they know what to do with who will do things like this...for example. Some rich kid in the town my parents live in actually lowered a brand new Rubicon! He's got the thing on Daytons with chrome fender flares. I wonder if he'll sell me his Dana 44's? This isn't directed at you chucker, I was just pointing out some of the stupid things I've seen people do. But I guess if it's what they like, oh well.

If it is going to be a PJ or street Jeep you can not get a better ride than a stock suspension. Going larger will only cost you in milage, power, and ride. Keep it stock for the best street jeep going. A lift is for a Jeep Jeep not a everyday ride. Nothing wrong with a PJ just let it be what it is not a want to be look alike. Just my 2 cent! tug

Chucker here.. Man you guys are tough. A street jeeps one that lives 99 % on the road and occassional off-road. I had the full blown mud cj 20 years ago.. bored 304, 488 lift cam, polished rods, dodge 440 valve springs to keep them from floating at 8,000 rpms, holly 650 on a torquer, chevy 302 distributor guts, hays 3400 lb pressue plate.. It was wickedly fast and the torque off-road... did i mention the full roll cage, dana 44, all stewart warner mechanical guages, it shook the ground.. and believe me you could feel the rough ground under the RANCHO, it was terrible...

i'm staying on road with this one, cause its a cream puff. If i want to go off-road again, i'll buy a ragged out one and do the above TYPE engine and associated goodies..

so i ask again to you jeep modifiers OF today.. WHICH MANUFACTURER TODAY MAKES A NICE RIDING, NO LANGE CHANGING, SUSPENSION SYSTEM???? :?: :?: THANKS CHUCK

Again stay stock for a great ride all off road lifts are stiff! Not being mean trying to help. I to would love to have a nice TJ stock as the day it was born to ride around town in. tug

i know the stock rides the smoothest.. but it needs a little lift and tire..
to make it look right, these 4cyl stock springs are sagging up front. chuck :(

Old man emu probably has the softest riding leaf springs. I'd avoid ProComp and Rancho, both are pretty stiff. Stay with hydraulic shocks.

painting the bumper

My 2.5 rancho is pretty stiff, and I like it! :D If it was any cushier than it is now,I would have more body roll.If it is too stiff, soften up the shocks a bit. That is if you have adjustable anyway.

Chucker your fighting two things here, a suspention lift I.E. re-arched leaf springs will give you a stiffer ride no matter what.
If your hunting a good ride go for OME type of replacement leafs and do a 1 inch shackle lift with a 1 inch body lift to fit the desirable tire size your hunting for.
A adjustable type of shock will let you dial in the right amount of stiffness to cush your hunting for here.

Inspector Gadget aims his fully loaded Super-Soaker at those who made fun of "Street Jeeps."

So....what do you have to say for yourselves now?????

Ok...so the Bubbacon is not configured to swim the Mississippi, but I can drive at 65MPH+ on the highway without feeling the need to play a cassette tape of that old hymn, "Nearer My God to Thee."

So there!

Light Bar for YJ (black prefered)

Chucker,
I still think an Old Man Emu system will give you the best ride you can buy, largely because of the leaf spring design and the flat seats that mount to the axles, but it depends how much you want to spend. I have heard nothing good about Pro Comp and Rancho as far as street friendliness goes - ROUGH. I have a BDS suspension on my YJ and the ride is much improved from the stock suspension. I'm sure when my Jeep was new that would not have been the case, but my springs were shot and now I am very pleased with the on road manners of the BDS system. I know BakedAlaskan just put one on his CJ, he might have more insight on how the BDS' CJ system does on the road. They are substantially cheaper than O.M.E. and I think you'd be pretty happy with their 2 1/2" CJ system. Don't take all the ribbing personally, it's your Jeep and it sounds like it is your baby (like mine is to me), so do with it as you see fit! You too, Gadget (I don't want to get shot with a go-go-gadget super soaker!) To each their own!

What does your Screen name/Nickname mean???

just to reinforce what a bunch of others have said... if money isn't a problem, go with Old Man Emu

okay okay, i hear you guys. I like a little ribbing about a "Street Jeep".
No damage done here yet.. Who has the best price/ service on "old man emu" :?: :?: I like the idea of 2 1/2" front springs...
