Welders ?

I am new to the welding game. I am planning on doing a SOA on my YJ. I need to weld the perches up. Will a MIG weld be strong enough for the perches? Do I need to use a buddies Arc welder? Or does somebody in TN want to help me out and weld it for me?

A mig is fine. 120 amp or so should do.
This being mig wire not flux core in a mig. Mix or pure argon ....

75% argon 25% co2 gas mix will work best when welding ferrous base steels. Pure argon is best when welding stainless.

Just make sure your welds properly penetrate the steel, but stitch weld so that tiy don't over heat the area and warp something!

I would avoid flux core when ever possible.

hey, if your buddy has a arc. Why not have him weld it.

Flux core has its purpose. Its not the nicest looking, But for an exhaust that will rot away who cares.
I use it on the Steel racks and fabin up brackets.
Its a loss when you add up the cost of it. But mig wire plus gas adds up too.
That may be why most people just use mig.

i have a giant bottle of gas... and mig wire is inexpensive... in total, if you factor in how much gas you actually use... it is much cheaper to go mig than flux

Don't weld yet, but I had heard welding cast iron takes a stick welder. Have I been led down the wrong path again? Clue in the clueless "redneck wanna-be" here please.

mostly any iron can be welded with the right heat
