Weird trans. high beam thing?

Was on the highway approx 110 km/h, and I turned on the high beams and this happened. Cruise disengaged, lost over drive and my passing gear, and CEL lit up. Made it another 50 km to a friends in town, turned it off and gave it a quick visual. When I restarted it, other than CEL, it seemed to work fine. Another 10km or so, again turned on the high beams and it did it again. Made it to where I was going, turned it off and on and , other than CEL, seemed to be fine. I could hear in the transmission, maybe a kind of motorized actuator sound(never noticed this before, but maybe it did) when putting it into R or D from neutral or park. But not from D to 1 or 2. Buddies android bluetooth OBD 2 thing showed transmission codes,eg. relay circuit, speed sensor and half a dozen other codes that aren't listed in manual. This must be an electrical issue? Something shorting? P/O had the motor swapped, and it was a shotty job. Living in the city the P/O probably never used high beam, so don't even know if this is a pre-existing issue or not. Cleared the codes and have not returned, but have not used highs :???:
Until it warms up or it does it again, looking for ideas  anything that comes to mind, thoughts, guesses, don't be shy. Kind of a weird thing I'll have to play with to see if I can get it to do it on purpose and retrieve some real codes. Thanks

You could try unplugging the headlights, then hit the high beams and see if you loose overdrive, etc. Then plum in one light and try again, then the second. Perhaps its just a bad ground on one of the headlamps.
