Water Pump bolt

I was trying to replace the water pump on my 88 Jeep Cherokee but the thread in the head for the top left bolt looks like it is a slot and the bolt will not screw into it, it just slides right in. Anybody ever encounter this?

Neither. Where the bolt hole is in the block, it looks like a slot (kinda of like the slots you see in the mount for a toilet for the bolts) and the blot just goes in there with no resistance.

Are you sure it's not going into where the heater hose lines up?

Well, I got the water pump on correctly, but when I pour water into the resivoir, water starts leaking from the frame beneath the passenger seat and I'm not getting water flow through the lines. I bypassed the heater coil. Any ideas where the leak is coming from?

Did you join the hoses together on the heater lines? It passes through and goes to the intake after the heater box.
