I won't shop at Wal-Mart so it doesn't matter to me. My understanding though is that it is only for a pretty limited amount of medicines (about 300) and that it is not for the ones that are pretty expensive right now. The ones that are $4 don't cost too much more than that else where. It will drive more people into the stores just because they think they'll get all their medicine for $4 and will be sadly disapointed when they have to regular price for thier expensive meds.
Target has already said they will match it. But it's all a moot point because it is only in Florida right now.

I find the reaction by the anti-crowd to this more interesting than anything else. Wal-Mart can't win, people are always complaining that they hate them for being uncompassionate and because of their lack of health benefits. Now they're to offer generic meds at $6 a prescription cheaper than most peoples copay, and everyones ****ed because they're going to charge market value for the rest of their meds.

Well, they had to. This way their employees can afford to get medicine now. ;)

Most people that work at wal-mart are teenage kids or women that have a man that has the real job. It isnt meant o be a job that carries all the benifits of a high paying job. Lets think about it , if you are a 35 year old man and you work at wal-mart you have made some bad choices in life. If you drive through the wal-mart parking lot you will see that most of the employees are driving new cars that the payments on would more than cover the avg. persons healthcare. I just dont get the wal-mart haters. That place saves consumers more money each year than the food stamp and medicaid programs that your beloved gov. supplies for you.

Can't have all your employees all dyin on ya now!

I can see both sides, I personally only go there a couple times of a year because they carry frozen crawdad tails. The rest of the time I avoid it like the plague because the whole place irritates me, from the tiny cramped aisles, to the useless employees, and the freakshow of people shopping there.

However a LOT of people love the place and speak with their wallets, and more power to them. Ultimately the free market is the way to go, I don't want the government telling me how and where I can spend my money.

My brother works at one part time while he's in school and actually makes good money (for a college kid) and has the option of picking up health insurance if he wants. The people that are making minimum are slackarses who have already been fired from Taco Bell, McDonalds, and Burger King are are unemployable most places.

I know many retired SGM's that work there for a little income and flexible hours. Heck, a retired SGM brings home 3400 easy in retirment pay.

LOL true hahaha .... i worked for them for almost a year and i finally got tired of all the crap i'm not much of a fan but every lil bit helps i'm one of the so many americans that doesnt have insurance so i have to pay the hard way !

Maybe it will keep some of their employees off the Medicaid budget.
I don't like Wal-Mart or their brand of capitolism that seems to be devoid of morals or patiriotism when it comes to cheap Aisian imports and paying people so little and pushing their healthcare off on us taxpayers.

I'm pretty much against unions, but I cheered when I heard that the Chinese Wal-Mart workers voted in the union there.

They claim to be lowering prices to help the average guy. Well when the cheap imported crap put Americans out of work, who's that gonna help?
We are becoming a third world nation, look around, where are the manufactuing jobs now? We can't even make a box of nails here because of cost and the tree-huggers.

I read somewhere that the average Supercenter cost the taxpayers $225,000 in medical expenses alone because only a few get to be on insurance and the ones that are on it say it stinks becuase the deductable is so high, it's a gutted plan, again with the empasis on keep Wal-Mart's cost low.

I won't shop there either. They are strengthening China while weakening us. They are a crappy employer. They put good businesses out of business. They force American companies into a choice of bankruptcy or outsourcing. They support political and special interest groups that I detest.

Their founder must be rolling in his grave.

Before his passing maybe, but after he was no longer running the company. WalMart started out to be a place I enjoyed shopping. They prided themselves on carrying products that were made in the USA. Now they are China's largest exporter.

My mom worked for them for 5 years before the old man died and she can tell you about the changes after he was gone.

He at least had a little patriotism about him and a moral compass. He knew America is what gave him the chance to succeed.

I just found out today from a Sam's pharmacist that the pressure on Wal-Mart and Sams to increase employee benefits is what lead to this prescription deal. He also said that they are rolling out a plan to offer some part time employees health insurance. But it is high and again is a gutted plan.
He also said that they are making internal cuts in management in order to pay for these programs. Again, they won't sacrifice that profit.

Ok guys you are just to much . So what stores do you shop at ? Target , Meijers, Kmart they are all the same thing . Why pick on wal-mart. As for health benifits there are lots of places that dont offer or do for a really high price. My gf works for a nursing home and the price is really high , I want to say like 400$ a month for me and her . I am sure all of you have lots of products not produced in the US, I to try to buy american but so much stuff is just not made here .TC didnt you just buy a german car , I guess it is ok if it is convient for you , but good lord atleast you didnt have to buy that car from wal-mart. I am also glad that the corprate guys let all the local pharmacy guys know why the choose to price stuff. that is a joke.

So true.

I find it rather humorous that none of this type of anti-Walmart discussion took place before that "Big Box Mart" movie....and suddenly anytime Walmart is brought into a subject, you all jump on the bashing bandwagon. There are so many other places as bad or worse than Walmart as far as how they treat their employees, and for selling stuff not made in America. There are literally hundreds of thousands of companies that do not even offer health insurance. It's not law, it's a benefit, a perk for working there. Don't even make me go into my "priveledge vs. right" speech....it ain't pretty. I make pretty decent money where I work, and for a short time had to buy their insurance. It took half my monthly pay just for the premiums, and the deductible on a procedure I have to have 4-6 times a year was another full paycheck. On top of that, I had to make up the difference of what insurance didn't pay on the 80-20 split. Needless to say, I seriously doubt Walmart workers had a worse plan than I do, seeing as how I probably make 2-3 times as much as an average Walmart Associate.

Who the hell do you think is responsible for China taking over our profits? Walmart? No. You yourselves have said it right here in this post that it started after Sam Walton was no longer running the business. How long do you think it's been going on? A helluva lot longer than many of you have been alive. Nearly every corporation in America is responsible by way of the drive to make more and more money to line the pockets of the CEO's. Their "need" to live in a 40,000 square foot, 25 bedroom mansion and drive $250,000 cars is what has driven the market to China and other countries. And I'll agree, TC, once you've bought a foreign car, you've forfeited your right to preach "Buy American", as far as I'm concerned. I totally understand why you did, but when it comes right down to it, if you were so "pro-American", you should have sucked it up and dealt with the inferior products America's Big 3 put out. I'll bet I can search the archives and find a handful of times you implied or outright stated that you'd never buy a foreign car because it would put hard working Americans out of a job. How many American families did you just send to the poor house to get their food stamps by buying that car? So, don't talk to me about "buying American". I've said it before, and I'll say it again: When America can produce a quality product for the same price I pay for a foreign product, then I'll buy American.

Now, I've already said too much, and won't say anymore. If you want to have your tantrum at me, go right ahead. I know what's coming, so save your bandwidth, I've got it memorized.

Sparky out.

I don't shop at Target, either. As for my DIESEL Jetta, it was the only new car I could buy that got 50 mpg highway and had a 5 star crash rating. In my driveway is a Jeep, a Ford E-350, and a Chevy 2500HD. I have one foreign car out of four, and it is German, not from a country that may put kids to work. It is from a UNION shop.

You're absolutely right. It was a very difficult thing to buy that car. I toiled over the decision for a few weeks, but ultimately it was the only choice that seemed economical at the time.

Don't tell me what right I have or don't have to "preach" about anything. I do buy american when I can. I drive over 34,000 miles a year just in my work commute alone. Fuel prices shot up to over $3.50 a gallon there a while and I was going broke driving to work. It was a very long thought out decision and I have no qualms about it. If you had spend around $450 in one month just buying gasoline to get to work and home again you may have made the same choice. Not that I need your approval, but you should understand the situation I was in before throwing up your happy little "TC bought a foreign car, ergo he is a hypocrite" flag.

As for where we shop: Sears, JC Penny, Kennie's Market...

Nah, see the problem isn't the CEO's. Sure, they're greedy, but most people will make money off other people if the others let them. There have forever been people wanting to get rich in this world at other's expense, but they can't do it unless you let them. The problem is that the consumers in our country have no loyalty to products made here. It's because times are good. That will change from what I can see coming down the pike. People just don't give a damn about the circumstances so long as they save a buck. That pretty much puts them in the same catagory as those CEO's you were referring to, doesn't it?

By the way, people who have a 40,000 square foot, 25 bedroom mansion and drive $250,000 cars have the right to do so. Without the ability to dream of such success, we would be living in a socialist society.

If you need me I'll be off throwing a tantrum on my Swedish couch, in my Bangladeshi underwear, watching my Taiwaneese TV, while eating a asada burrito and drinking a New Castle. ;)
