Un-rust chrome

So I leave my cj outside and it has chrome valve covers. It has gotten a bit of rust on it. Is there a way to get the rust off without re-chroming?

Aluminum foil. Wad it up and rub the chrome, works wonders.

No, chrome is very hard.

sos pads. keep it wet and use a new one a lot. Oh I for got about this new stuff my friend told me about called NEVER DULL wadding polish, i just read the can and it says it removes rust instantly. I got it at advanced auto, but any of your local auto stores should have it. The more you wipe it with a clean towl the shinnier it gets. Awsome stuff.

I use the steel wool pads and have never noticed any scratches.

steel wool is very popular for putting the silver back into rusted chrome.

Another steel wool vote. At hardare stores you can it different levels of coarseness? 2x,3x, 4x etc. bigger the number the finer it is. I use 4x on windshields, cleans bad bugs, water spots and doesn't scratch. If the valve covers "aren't" pitted they should clean up. If it cleans up you can even put a coat of wax on em to repel moisture/water better.
