hey guys, i have a serious question. the other day i was driving my '93 wrangler yj down the interstate. i was pushing it pretty hard (well to the floor 8)) then all of a sudden it felt like i lost all forward drive power and i watched my gas gauge drop 1/4 tank like that. but when i merged of the interstate shortly after everything seemed alright except for my clutch felt a little different like i was low on fluid. but i was wondering if my jeep maybe somehow had a point where it would kill itself if i got it to high in the rpm's or to high in the mph's?

thanks guys

There is a rev limiter to keep from revving the engine too high, but that wouldn't explain what you saw on the fuel gauge.

Is your alternator charging? The symptoms sound similar to a bad alternator or voltage regulator. If the alternator is not working no power is being generated to power the vehicle so you are running on only the battery. You can run a motor on just batteries for quite some time during daylight hours (less with the lights on) but when the battery drains to the point the voltage drops too low (somewhere below 12 volts) the motor will do just as you describe, loose power all of a sudden. In most cases depending upon the overall health of the battery, the motor will continue to run with reduced power for a short while but ultimately die and once you turn off the motor it will not restart unless jumped.

it wasnt a rev limiter, ive had the rpms higher than where it was which was 3500 rpms, ive had it past 4000 :) and no i dont think its my alternator cause that would affect it all the time. what i think happened is the computer in the jeep shut something down to where it was like i pushed the clutch in and let off the gas
