u joint removal

My rear drive shaft u joint snapped today and I'm desperately trying to get the old joints off and the new ones on. I am having some problems getting the old ones out. Anyone have any suggestions?????[addsig]

get a socket that is just slightly smaller than the cap on the u-joint and a socket that is slightly larger than the cap....put it all in a vise and squeeze...or do it like i do....get one smaller socket and hit it with a hammer. this "breaks" the joint free from the driveshaft and it should than come out pretty easy.[addsig]

lots of pounding... just gotta make sure you get the entire ring out of there... then you'll need something solid to hammer against.. lubrication helps... and a vice is a good tool... once the cap is out part way... you can vice it and twist it out[addsig]
