Been reading a 4x4 magazine from South Africa and came across an article where the guys are putting turbo charged rotary engines into their Jeeps for dune bashing in the Namibia.

Anyone done something simelar?
The Jeep must sound sound like a screaming banshee at full throttle

I haven't.. Mine purrss like a kitten, pounces like a lion and drinks gas like my brother drinks beer.. He screams like a girl when his wife pounds him on the back of the head with a skillet.

A rotary in a Jeep? Hmmm, I guess for dunes, it might be fine, but those rotaries seem to have little torque.
I'm really not a fan of the rotor "WIIIINGGG".

Rotary would be fun , but I thinks a LS6 would match the higher torque and RPM's needed to throw four rooster tails at once. Seen several Cj's down at the Imperial sand dunes near Glamis, running ported 350's. Used to spend my winter weekends down in the sand dunes when I lived in Phoenix.

My first car was a 1980 RX7, and the engine was nice - revs high, but didn't seem to have much torque. Also, for a tiny little engine it only got like 17 mpg.

i had a samurai with a turboed rx7 motor in it. it was scary fast was great wheeling machine. haqd her on 33s scaredc me to much i could pull the front tires on the ground when i was acclerating hard. i traded it for a samurai with a tracker 1.6 liter 4 banger now my daily driver. much less scary.
