Trashed my transmission

Well this weekend I went through a little too much water for my 95 YJ 4 banger. The transmission took in too much water. Looks like I may have to get a new one or rebuild it. Any suggestions on getting a different transmission so this doesn't happen again??? Any better transmissions that will work? Any suggestions would help since I am new here! Thanks

Thought so, tough to flood the manual.

Is it shot completely? Did you catch it in time to stop using it, maybe a fluid and filter change will do.

I know little 'bout autos, so I can't help you much. Good luck.

Well we drained all the bad fluid out after it started leaking. I was hoping I just busted the seal or gasket. We disconnected the hose from the trans cooler, then poured new fluid in until the normal color came back. I tried driving it but it seemed like it wasn't shifting into 3rd. Then when I came to a stop and took off again the Jeep was moving but not up to par with the rpms. I had it towed back so I wouldn't mess anything up. I heard that the vent on these transmissions were low so it's easy to take in water. I am not exactly sure which transmission I have in the Jeep either. I don't have an owner's manual for it yet! The previous owner's didn't have it so I have to order one. I would like to get a new transmission that doesn't have this problem.

I haven't had the time to take it apart yet. So I don't know exactly how bad things are in there. Anything I should look for? Anyway of flushing any excess water and junk to get it back to normal? If not what type of transmission should I look into getting?

Autos are known for not being very well sealed. Only way to truely prevent it is to install a manual transmission.

I'm sure some of the water/ATF mixture was pumped into the torque converter, so you need to take the transmission in for servicing. A good shop will check things out and pump ATF through the entire transmission, ensuring all contaminants are out, for a reasonable cost. It may not be too late.

well I am going to take the transmission out tonight and see what kind of damage if any has occured. If it's not bad then I plan on keeping th transmission for now, at least until I can afford a better one. I was hoping to seal up the vent and possibly relocated it. any takes on a good method on this?

I'm not real familiar with any vent on that auto, I'm thinking it's not as easy as hooking up a breather tube to a vent like the manual transmission has. The later manual transmission has a vent just like the diffs, on the shift tower.
