Transmission problems

Last Sat. my jeep dumped all her transmission fluid out of nowhere. It came out of that house that runs to the trans radiator. It was a simple fix, just reattached the hose tightened up the clamp and refilled the transmission fluid with Dexron 3. Now the trans is slippin left and right. It also takes a second or two to get in to D and R and some time falls out of gear and redlights/stop signs.

I have 98 Sport (4.0) with auto transmission. I had no signs of transmission problems prior to that hose coming off.

Is the trans goin? Is Dexron 3 wrong? Am I not providing enough info?

Any input would help.

Thanx in advance,
DW

hey sorry to hear of your problem, for your fix and fill, im allmost positive you used the wrong fluid, your trans came fromt he factory with ATF 7176 fluid, thats what you should have put back in there, did you drive it when it dumped all the fluid? and what color was the fluid when it dumped out?

I drove about 70 feet, but it still had at least a quart left. As far as the fluid it was red. I'm hopin I used the wrong fluid and also hoping it does not cause permanant damage. I will drain and refill on tommorow.Should I use ATF III. I can't seem to find ATF II?

look on the bottle it will say for chrysler for type 7176 for chrysler vehicals, i have a couple bottles from when idid my trans and it says 7176 fluid on it,

For the slipping, you may still need to add more fluid, until the torque converter fills back up. It may have read full when you refilled it, but some went into the torque converter after driving it. Check it after several driving trips.
