transmission linkage bushing

The bushing on my automatic tranny linkage fell out and I'm having a hard time pressing the new one in. My fingers don't seem to be strong enough and pliers or channel locks won't squeeze it in straight - the bushing turns instead of going in. Any ideas ??

almost forgot, it's a 2010 JK

Are you talking about the white end on this cable:

Looks similar to the one on my TJ. I had a hard time getting mine on as well. Can't say that I found a trick to do it. I remember struggling with it until I finally squeezed it on.

Maybe something like this may help:

I'll use just about any excuse to go buy some new tools.

Yes it's the bushing on the end where it hooks up to the transmission. The replacement bushing is clear.

If I don't get it on today I'll buy those pliers - I also belong to the can't have too many tools club.

I tried yesterday to use a bolt and washers to squeeze it on but it would turn sideways as it entered the housing, maybe a bigger bolt. If all else fails my grandson is off work tomorrow.

I've tried channel locks but one side of the bushing goes in and the other side pops out. I feel like I just don't have enough strength in my fingers anymore. My grandson is off work today so hopefully he will have better luck.

Guess it won't be today, my great grandson was sick all night so it will postoned for another day.
