last nite driving home from work my transmission (5spd) started to make a squealing noise sounds like its from around the clutch.. i had the clutch professional installed about 9 months ago. im thinking maybe the throwout beaing?? but at 230$ for the bearing i would like to get some advice.. what does a throwout bearing sound like when it goes out? would it be quiet with the clutch in or out? please help hunting and wheeling season is coming up very soon. my daily driver is way to small to put a deer in..

Holy crap!! $230.00 for a t. out bearing? what was the warranty on the installation and part since it's only been 9 mos.?, Yes the t.out bearing would either grind or squeel..

they didnt replace the tbearing when they did the clutch i could afford it at the time. for 89 jeeps the slave cylinder and the tbearing are one peice. hence the the 200+$ price tag. and my long arms hook in the the transmission crossmemeber so i have to drop my front axle to pull the transmission.

but it sounds like im on the right track with a throwout bearing???

Never heard of a throw out bearing costing $200.+ are you sure it wasnt the cost to drop trans to install it ? bearing shouldnt be more than 30 40 bucks tops

slave cyl is a seperate part

thats what the parts store told me the cost was for the throwout bearing. they told me for the '89 xj with the puegent 5 spd the throwout bearing and the throwout bearing are one piece.

Yes, for '89 the throwout bearing and internal clutch slave are one unit, hence the high cost. Wasn't until '94 and the introduction of the external clutch slave that the throwout bearing became a separate piece as indicated the above diagram.

thanks everyone.. i was pretty sure that was it was the throw out bearing. i just really dont wanna pull the transmission again.. i love the rustys long arm but it makes it a plain in the arss to pull the transmission out..
