i just bought an auto transmission for my yj and im getting a dana 300 transfer case with it. will i need new driveshafts??

offhand i would say yes simply because of all the variables. example u-joint sizeand lenght. to be absolutly sure measure your auto transmission and dana 300 mated and compare that lenght with what youve got. if there is a difference of more than a couple inches new driveshafts are in order.

what would i need to do if i got the dana 300 with the passenger side drop? what kind of work would be involved to make it work?

a new front axle, which means you can upgrade your dana 30 to a dana 44
or you can just go with a dana 30 front end from a CJ with a pass side drop

There is a flipkit to run the D300 upside down and make it a driver's side drop, but I dunno much about it. You'll need to modify the length of both driveshafts, and change the yokes if they don't match the D300 yokes.

how much is a flip kit? i got a guy that said he can get me some driveshafts to fit. how much will the yokes run if they dont match?

thanks for the help guys. if you ever head to alabama let me know and we'll hit some trails

Since your in Bama, call Offroad Connection in Fultondale. They can give you the low down. The flip kits are expensive. You will need new driveshafts because your rear has a slip shaft in the transfer case.. Does it not? An auto will make your rear shaft shorter and the front longer. You can probably get a front D44 for the price of the flip kit. What about the transfer case adapter? Unless you got the transmission from a CJ with a Dana 300, you'll need that one anyway.

the transmission came from a 84 cj7 with a dana 300 transfercase. I plan on getting the t-case with it. would it be easier to get a dana 30 axel from a automatic cj to put in there? What else would I have to do besides that? I got the shifter and flex plate already. i just havent decided if it would be best to get the dana 300 tcase. Is there any other t-cases that would fit it without me having to switch anything? do u know what the name of that jeep junkyard near birmingham is called redrooster?
