Trak-Loc and Disc/Drum brake decisions...

Some of you may have seen me post here before... Im gonna get me a TJ in a few weeks and Im deciding on options. Can anybody explain the "Trak-Loc Differential Axle" and why I may or may not want one on my TJ? Is it worth the $250? THANKS!

Some info on what I'm looking for:

An X or a SPORT. Mainly Im gonna use it on-road but I want it to be fully capable in the mud as well. As soon as I get one I'm gonna upgrade it to 31" BFG A/T tires

Also, is it worth it to get the SPORT just for the option of 4-wheel disc brakes as opposed to the 2-front disc brakes and 2-rear drum brakes on the X? Thanks for all your help!

I would say go for the upgraded brakes. My TJ has the rear drums and I some times feel that it just doesnt have that clean crisp stopping power.
To be in fact it does but with all jeeps or I might say SUV's it just doesnt have that car or sports car crisp braking power that we enjoy when we take the 240 z out for a spin.
As for the trac-loc that depends on what your really going to do with it (off roading type) I didnt get it since I knew I was going to upgrade my rear to a 44 and throw in a detroit. If your not intending to up-grade the 35 for some years then the 250$ is well spent.

The trac-loc is a limited slip differential that will greatly improve your traction over stock open diffs. You will not notice the difference onroad, but will be able to get through more offroad. It's worth the $250, most aftermarket lockers cost that much before installation.

I suggest getting disc brakes all around, but for no larger than 31" tires the disc/drum setup will work fine. For larger than 31", go with all disc.

If you're going to the Sport from an X anyway, might as well get the D44 rear axle. At the least it'll help with resale if that ever happens.
