TJ making knocking in engine or transmission?

For a week now my TJ has started making a knocking sound from engine or transmission area. It is running good, this just has me concerned that this noise has just appeared. It's hard to pinpoint the exact area of the noise. Has anyone had this problem?

Does it do it in neutral, or in gear? At idle or under load?

Describe when the sound happens and under what conditions.

It does it when idling or driving down the road. Speeds up with the engine. At different RPMs it goes away. I have been up and all around the jeep and can't pinpoint this knock.

I have a similar problem and it was the transmission support, it was a very easy fix...do you check already your engine and transmission supports?

No I haven't checked any supports. It sounds internal.

I'm starting to think rod or piston slap. Wrist pin maybe???

If it happens at idle, and increases with rpms, I'd think that it was something internal to the engine. From there I'm not much help though.
