i have 29" tires right now and they are the perfect size, they might rub just a tad on u-turns, people usually lift their xjs to fit anything bigger than a 29" though, i believe 30" is the absolute bigest you can go, and to get them to fit nice and still allow a good ammount of flex you might need to trim the fender, as far as 31" tires, i dont know of anyone running 31" tires without a lift, theres just not enough clearance from fender to tire and you might have the problem ive been running into, i put some fat 29" on and they hit the control arms on U-turns, so i put wheel spacers on and they stick out an extra 1.25", this fixed the rubbing problem but caused another problem, now the tires dont tuck anymore and the fender is directly over the tire and the fender eats tire bad when i load over 500lbs an they rub and rub, so now i have to purchase a 2" lift so my 29" tires wont rub when i tow trailers or have friends ride with me

i hear ya he wants to lift it but just is not in his budjet it his daily driver so it's lift it or buy new tire's and his tire's are super bad

you might get away with 30's, but yeah, 31's are too big. without a lift.

i think the scale goes,
no lift = 29" tires,
2" lift = 30" tires,
3" lift = 33" tires

you can pick the tire by the size of lift you want or you can choose the lift by the tire size you want, give us an update on what he decides to do

On an xj. 33s don't fit with 3". I have 5 and it's close.

You're wrong!
No lift = sad face :(

Depends on the tire too. Just because the sidewall says one size doesn't mean that's what you get. A lot of mud tires run almost an inch small, especially BFG and Maxxis. I ran 235/75/15s on mine stock, roughly 29" and they were perfect.

I had 31's on my Jeep when I first got it, not sure what brand but they said Dominator on the side wall and they never rubbed, but I replaced one of them with a 31" Goodyear Dura-trec and it rubbed all the time until I moved it to the back.

Your grand has bigger wheel wells than a cherokee.

its a AAL and coil spacer lift, its actually a really nice lift an seems like its well worth the money, i think he shuld think about getting a lift at the same time he gets the tires

Well i have him talked into the lift and tires so it should work out for him till he gets up enough cash to go bigger

Heres a little info that might be useful to some in an effort to save him more money we did some expermenting and lifted his xj 2" with junk yard parts front coils from a grand cherokee with a v8 will lift the front 2" and just added leafs to the rear whole job was done for 45 bucks
