Tiger Top question

Hello, noob here.

Bought a 1977 cj5 couple weeks ago. PO installed a new top. If I remember right, tops on my previous CJ5s had a snap in the corner of the top. Something new? Something missing? Installed wrong?

you are correct. The older tops had snaps at the corners, the newer after market tops don't, they come with a longer channel for across the windshield that curves slightly around the top corner of the windshield. you have the older windshield channel with a newer top.

Hmm, wrong top. Tried reading through Bestop, no details on the corners. I'm stuck with what I got. Cut the plastic out, add a snap?

Pretty sure the channel is correct for the Jeep. If I went to a wider channel, would still have the large hole? Not familiar with the newer Jeeps/CJs.

what large hole? from the snap hole? if so the wider channel would cover it. the channel you have is correct for your jeep but I don't think they make a top with the snaps anymore. I would think you could add a snap to the top you have. I had that snap replaced on mine because it ripped out, they didn't charge me a dime. took about 3 minutes

That's it. Check to see if the length of that channel is sufficient for the soft top header. If it's too long, cut the excess length from the middle and then install the channel to the windshield. Make sure you properly align the channels that meet in the center before you screw it on.

By golly, I'll have to check that channel closer.
Here's the hole I'm talking about. Looks a lot bigger from the inside and lets in a lot of cold air. tiger top hole.jpg

I like the idea of that curved channel. Better than the old snaps. Maybe Bestop will get back to me soon.

Maybe I ask Morris about it.

I have a hole there as well, I don't think you will have much luck completely sealing all the top, but that channel is the wrong one for that top and may or may not fix that hole. when you look into getting that channel tell them its for a 76-86 as I know those have the wider channel, and as stated above if its too long cut it in the middle to length. It comes in two pieces. I have installed 2 ewer tops and didn't have to cut either channel. any place that sells tops should have the channel.

Thanks to all, for getting me straightened out. I'm understanding this channel thing now. Will get one from Morris soon.

Happy New Year to everyone!
