The Ultimate Jeep

Given an unlimited budget, let's hear how everyone would build their ultimate Jeep. Let's stick to production vehicles, not concepts and leave the buggies out for now.
Run down the body style, drivetrain, tires, accessories, etc...

I want TeenyCar's new rig.
37's, custom 9's F&R, boatsided and solid mounted to the frame, sits at stock TJ height, stock YJ 4.0 drivetrain. Only thing I'd chang would be to put in a STAK 3 speed. Possibly swap to a 4.3/TH350 too.

Looks like a buggy to me.

I like the KISS theory, so I'd probably stick with a SOA YJ, D60's front and rear, mild v8 like the 5.3L built to about 350hp, GM 4spd auto with a 3spd transfer case or doubler. Spool in the rear and detroit in the front. Highsteer with 38"-40" tires. For around here anyway.

That's pretty modest Bounty. Splurge a little. Throw an Ox Locker or some other bling in there.
I define a buggy as having an other than stock frame. The one pictured still has the Jeep frame and body, though it's highly modified.

With money to burn...

Start out with a 06 unlimited and gut it. Build up a nice Buick 1968 GS455 and stroke it 3mm. Throw in T/A stage 2 Eliminator heads and Mallory EFI, Bolt this through a TH700R with 4:1 Atlas with the optional front disconnect lever with a doubler for those Kodak moments. To hold up the tires a set of Currie Rock Jock 60's 4:88's with an matching set of Detroit lockers in the front and rear turning a set of Toyo's 37 inchers on a set of Steelies with internal bead lockers.

A trip over to Tera-flex and have Doc set me up a LCG supreme kit and a set of King Coil overs fix its stance, a Currie Stablizer bar front and rear to give it some paved road maners. A quick trip over to Colorado and letting the boys at Poison Spyder do there thing, A nine point roll cage bolted to the frame starts the action there and a full set of there body panels and rock rails to keep my insides from getting dented from those hard things on the outside. A nice set of there flat fenders to impress the locals top offs Poison spyders contributions. With a rig like this a on board air system...Viair 550C and a Mean green alternator to power a on-board welder and just enough juice to power a 9500TI from Warn to pull those stupid enough to try and follow me.

Now for comfort a set of Best top seats fitted for my wide arse bottom, and heads up unit for infinity to fill those quiet times.

All the rest is cosmedics...

In addition to the above, I'd also like an old FSJ, J20 style.

Of course I'd gut the drivetrain, but it wouldnt be a SBC swap. Instead, make it a 454 BBC fuel injected backed by a TH400 and STAK 3 speed. Rear end would be an old Eaton rear and the front a Ford HP 60. Rear suspension would be a single triangulated 4 link with 14" coilovers sticking into the bed. 30 gallon fuel cell in the bed as well. Front suspension, dual triangulated 4 link with 14" coilovers and air bumps. Trim the fenders and the bed way out to make room for some 42" SX's (we did say money no option, I think interco can be persuaded). Look to keep it semi low so the trimming would be very necessary. The front bumper would get a re-do and get a winch integrated in behind it completely out of sight, and the rear bumper, well maybe it can stay. Of course a full cage in cab would be mandatory, and while we're in there gut the interior and redo the entire dash out of rolled and polished aluminum. Simple gauge cluster with radio and CB mounted in dash. And in a truck that bad, you gotta have a sick sound system so we'll go with two Infinity 10" Kapaa's powered by a 1500 watt amp, and Kapaa 6x9's in the doors with accompanying tweeters. Hmmmm anything else... Oh, beadlocks sorry.

I've been thinking about it and feel that I would want a Jeep with all the bling, yet be capable of taking the Ultimate Adventure road trip. Start with a Rescue Green 4 door JK with soft top. Gut the drivetrain and suspension. Install a GM LS7 (505 hp small block 427) and an Art Carr Th400 transmission. Follow up with a 3 speed Stak case and front and rear Tera 60's loaded with Ox Lockers, alloy shafts and CTMS. The suspension would be a 4 link with Sway a Way coilovers at all 4 corners and those fancy unlocking sway bars. Tires would be 42" Iroks mounted on some of those new 5 spoke AEV beadlock wheels. The rollcage would cover front and rear as well as an engine cage and tube fenders. Probably put some trail corners on as well. The interior would be gutted and Linex'd. The seats would be replaced with 4 Corbeau's, harnesses and some storage boxes. Gotta have GPS and a stereo too. Probably throw on compressed air, welder and HS9500 winch while I'm dreaming.

i already have mine. 88 yj 7.5" total lift kc's and OBA ect ect everything i already have ...just more tire and beadlocks and custom 9"s f/r with ox and ctm'sand a ram jet 503 and 4l60e stack box

I believe a 502 would obliterate your 9" axles, but as long as we're dreaming I guess you can make them out of super strong bullet proof unobtanium.

I am slowly working on getting my jeep to be the ultimate (in my mind).

What i have so far
1989 YJ Blue
Front axle: 1979 Ford F350 D60 with 35splin inners/outers, 5.13 gears detroit locked
Rear axle: 1985 GM 14bolt 5.13 detroit
SM465 granny transmission (has yet to be put in)

And now the wish list: I accept cash, check, charge and full frontal nudity :MDB2:
Stack monsterbox 3speed (nearly have)
4link front and rear with about 14" travel coil overs and stretching about 10inches
Hummer bead's (recentered) with about a 40-42" tire x5
Warn winch
Either a full hydro steer or 40% assist
Lastly a 5.7 with around 390-410 horse

A trend I've noticed here, but have always known, is that Jeepers don't really care about the looks as much as the guts. Everyone is talking about things that function versus things that are form. Form follows function is very very true here. I actually had a hard time trying to describe what the body of my aforementioned FSJ would look like, cuz all I could think about was the internals, and how to make it into something that I wanted because of what it would be able to do.

Very true with that observation. Yes, I would like to keep my jeep looking nice and for the most part undamaged. But it will not be at the expense of being afraid to do certain trails because of the likely hood of body damage. I bought and am building (like many people) a vehical to take us places where we could not or would not take most of our daily drivers. All too often in Colorado I see kids with their big Dodge and Ford trunks with nice lifts, tires and what not and know that that rig will never ever see a spec of dirt under it's tires.

Everyone's rig that I have seen on this sight is a work (or work in progress) of beauty that is that person. Guess that is what makes a Jeep a Jeep.

Not me, brotha. If you are going to showcase your fabrication and wheeling prowess, you might as well look good doing it. Bling it on!
Actually, my Ultimate Jeep description is more about having a fresh pallet to put all my story related dents on. My CJ has some good stories on it, but also has some from the previous owners.

I want two Jeeps, an old Scrambler as collectable, weekend cruiser, and a built YJ for trails.

I'll use the YJ here as I think that's what you were really looking for anyhow.

A 91 YJ Sahara (already have the Jeep) built for trail;s that are primarily off camber stuff and mud. It would need to be able to handle rocks, but just obstacles on local trils, not "rock gardens". Sorry rock lovers, it's what I prefer ;)

IF it were an older CJ I'd probably make an attempt to get a Jeep motor like a 360 and start off that, but since it's not I'd build it with a Chevy drivetrain, probably a beefy crate 350, with a TH400, and an Atlas xfer case. For axles I'd probably get (since we're going for "dream" here) a set of portal axles from a Unimog. This would probably allow me to get away with just a SOA on RE 1.5" reverse eye springs and still be able to run big meats. I'd probably run a set of cut 38" boggers. It will be a mudder, right?

I'd get someone around here to make me a full cage, and I'd paint it in Aervoe mil spec apoxy OD paint. I dunno... that was off the cuff... something like that anyhow. Never really thought about building one on an unlimited budget. Mine's pretty limited :)

(edit) I'd get an 8274, I know there are better winches out there but they look gnarly and are reliable and fast as hell too

Since we are talking about our DREAM rig, I guess mine would be any Jeep with the Sweedish National Bikini Team inside!!!!

Edit: If we are dreaming here...I would also like the Sweedish Bikini team as well.....but without there bikini's 8)
