First off. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ALL!

I am taking my 89 YJ 4.2L into the mechanic next week. It is need to get a pressure plate and clutch into.

But, my main concern is that my Jeep has sat this summer not running much. When I go to start it, I have to pour gas down through the carb long enough to get the gas through the gas lines to feed into the carb.

What are the possibilities of this? Fuel pump, fuel line leak, fuel filter needs replaced, what else am I forgeting. All if I run it daily it will start every time but leave 1/2 week or more I have to pour the gas in.

In regards to the pressure plate and clutch, is their anything else I should replace while it worked on?

Many thanks

Joey

I'd change all the fluids if you haven't done it receintly including the oil and filter. You'll probably want to drain the gas tank as well, and fill it with new gas.

With the spark plugs removed & fresh oil in the sump crank the engine with the starter motor. Do about 20 second cranks with a 30-60 seconds rest between. After 2-3 cranks you should see some oil pressure on the gauge. That will make sure the bearings have some oil before starting the engine.

When it fire up you'll likely have a huge cloud of smoke, so you'll want it outside.

isn't there a check valve in the line or in the fuel pump that prevents fuel from running back into the tank?
