hwo hard is it to install the sye kit on a np231? im not getting the "hack and tap" im getting teh whoel new shaft and everything...how hard is this? i am putting this on prior to the lift so i need this 2 go as smoothly and fast as possible

i have heard that it is preety easy. it uses the existing boltholes and replaces the tail shaft. i am also curious to learn more as i am installing an sye soon as well.

I've read that it's time consuming but not overly difficult. Just have to take your time and have the right tools. I hear there is an oil pump or slinger that is a pain to get in place/keep in place during reassembly, I'm sure you'll find what I'm talking about.

Do a google search, there is a lot of info out there on installing SYE's. I'll be doing the hack and tap, I've assembled most of the parts I need. You never hear of one failing, so why spend all the money on a HD mainshaft?

I ordered the one from quadratec. I thought i was going to open a can of worms...went smoooooth. Only thing that's really hard is getting the snap rings off..so get the biggest pair of snap ring pliers you can find and make sure you have lots of patience getting them off. I'd leave the case up in the jeep this way you don't have to disconnect everything. took me about 6 hours to install it..would have been alot sooner if didn't take frustration breaks from snap ring removal. All and all, very easy and it can be done alone in a day.

LOL! I take a few of those mental health breaks just about every time I work on my Jeep!

yeah its getting to the point where every time i do work i have to step back or i'ma afraid somthing will break.

Forgot to mention to get a big pair of split-ring pliers. They aren't snap rings, there are no holes to hook into, you just pry the ring open to remove it.

oh, i had these snap ring pliers that was reversable..prolly why i had such a hard time..stupid snap ring pliers. So..yeah..get the right tools for the right job.

while replacing my transmission on a snow/slush/grease/water/dirt/oil covered floor, i found that it would have gone a lot better if i had something to beat up or break just about once every hour

QUESTION - If you install this kit BEFORE the lift, wont you have to go through 2 different length drive shafts? The shaft before the lift will be shorter than the one after the lift. This doesn't make sense to me. Please clarify.

hi-c, you are correct. I have seen some jeepers run a little longer than necessary driveshaft for a short time, anticipation a lift in the near future.
