Swaybar/ Trackbar removal

I have a 1988 Wrangler and was wondering if removing the swaybar and tracbars will make a difference off-road. will it then be able to flex a little more?

Rear trackbar- remove it.
Sway bar - disconnect for off road, reconnect on road.

My swaybar has been disconnected for almost a week. It made an unbelievable difference offroad! I'm having a hard time bringing myself to reconnect it. My jeep has never driven so well. I think I don't have as much body roll as I was told I would (maybe because of the beefy leaf springs & nitro shocks???) I am going to hook it back up this weekend to do the responsible thing, but I don't want to!

many of us just decide never to replace the swaybar, some tend to find that it is not bad onroad

I like it disconnected on and off road!! i'm actually just gonna take the whole sway bar off of Trogdor!

i did the same bounty..i took off my swaybar up front about 6 months ago and havnt really noticed much diffeerence. altho as my springs break in more there is more body roll but if you drive in a re4asonable matter it is liveable. ditch the rear track bar tho...its role is useless!!

I will agree with my YJ brothers. Get rid of that Rear Track Bar! I also removed my sway bar links permanently. I did leave the sway bar, though, in thoughts of one day having a large lift and using disconnects.

Make your own discos for the front, most of them on the market are a PAIN IN THE A$$, and you will kick youself for buying them. throw away your rear trac.

Can someone explain WHY the YJs don't need a rear trackbar? I was looking at mine today when I was taking measurements for u-bolt plates and it LOOKS important... but I would just like to know why, or what differences there are before removing it all together.

AZ: (4) Prime Chrome wheels and 2 unmounted tires

Let me see if I can explain this...
The track bar is responsible for keeping the axle from moving side to side, too much. In forward motion, the rear axle is going to stay straight because it's main attachment is behind 2 fixed leaf spring mounts.. on the frame. Up front, the axle is behind 2 non-stationary shackles. Sure they're bolted to the frame, but they're not fixed. The biggest difference you'll notice is a bit more roll when taking corners. Just slow down.

so if I remove the rear trackbar I will notice a difference in the "roll factor"... I don't know if I like that. I won't be removing the front trackbar, I have a relocation bracket from RE... if I keep the rear trackbar on will I have to get a relocation bracket for that as well? Or I could just extend it and weld a new bracket on my new axle... Oh and I know there is a certain angle to shoot for with the front trackbar, is there one for the rear trackbar too? My guess is no since there are no steering componets to deal with...

i noticed no difference with my rear tracbar one except for when i am cornering and hit a bump while doing so, i hop a bit is all... nothing i'm concerned about... i'm sure that also has to do with having no shocks in the rear. There are many many many rear leaf sprung vehicles out there with no tracbar, even from the factory... if they don't need it, i don't need it..

I am going to check mine this weekend. If I have (like the front) a Trac bar AND a Sway bar in the rear, I may try it a couple days without the Sway :-D DEAD L33T!!!!!

Funny as it seems I had quick disco's on my rear axle that disabled the rear sway on my long arm kit. For the last 6 months I had been driving on road with them disco-ed. Well I have removed the rear sway bar from my Jeep and havnt seen any problems on my 2001. I still have the front.

Not sure if this is good advice for all coil spring TJ owners but in my humble opinion it was a worthless piece of metal on my Jeep.

i dotn have my rear sway bar on the rear of my TJ and it makes no difference, i dont feel a thing i think its worthless, also on the YJ its worthless everyon i know tossed them in the trash
