Swaping engines, carburated to a fuel injcted model

A friend of mine got his 84 F150 totalled in an accident, He heard about an 86 F150 that has a fuel injected motor in it, which is shot. Now the 84 has a carburator, would it be any problem putting the motor from the 84 into the 86. The 86 with the shot engine could be purchased for 100 dollars,It's 4 wheel drive. Is it worth it to get involved with? Thanks.

Shouldn't be bad. Just keep the old motor around. May need flex plate and dampener. Possibly front cover depending on where the crank and cam sensors are. As long as they are the same mill

Are you puting the 84 trucks carb enginge into the newer truck? or the injected motor into the 84 truck. Nevermind, reread you post. I am just guessing at this so take it for what it is "just a guess". but I wouldnt think it would be that bad either.

I think 86 came with carb'd and injected 302 motors, I know 85 came with both. It should be a simple swap of the motor and then you can also upgrade to fuel injection, since its there. Totally worth it on the 302

If it's TBI, it's easy, but the heads changed at some point on the 302 to 5.0 for MPFI
