Suspension Questions

I have some questions about one of Rustys Off Road suspension kits. I will paste the web site info on here, but can anyone tell me what else i need, and if this would sacrifice my street ride?

The Rusty's 3-inch XJ Suspension Kit has been one the most successful items we have developed. Our soft spring rates along with our specific valve shocks have put this kit above the rest. All of the Rusty's 3-inch kits will clear 31in. tires. Rusty's 300AL kit comes complete with front coils, full-length add-a-leafs, four Rusty's hydro shocks, a rear brake line extension bracket and complete instructions. The Rusty's 300SP has the same parts as the 300AL but with complete new rear springs. A new addition to the Rusty's suspension line is the 305STS kit. This kit comes with coil springs that have a 30-lb heavier spring rate and an overload spring on the rear leaf springs. If you have a large heavy bumper, a winch, and carry a lot of gear this may be the kit for you.

• 2 - 3" Front Coil Springs
• 2 - 3" Rear Leaf Packs
• Rear Brake Line Extension
• 4 - Rusty's Hydraulic Shocks
• Complete Instruction

I look forward to getting my '96 Xj lifted to fit the 31 X 10.5 tires. Any help would be appreciated, especially since I have a baby on the way, and i can't afford to get the wrong thing, or have to continual re-purchases.
Thanks guy and gals,

Hi,

If that is the kit with the completely new leaf springs (NOT the add-a-leafs), which it appears to be, then that is the same kit I bought and installed on my cherokee.

I can't remember needing anything else, except lots and lots of PB Blaster (like WD40 but better) and a lot of patience when trying to remove the leaf spring eye-bolts, and coil spring compressors (don't be cheap and buy them at harbor freight like I did, as one attempted to self-destruct while I was working with it ).

Oh, and Rusty's 3" springs ended up giving me like 4" of lift (so the rear sat a little higher than the front). Though, I guess that is to compensate for sagging of the leaf springs under certain loads.

not trying to bash rusty's here because i plan to get a rusty's lift, but the guy at the local 4wd shop here (Des Moines Offroad) said they had trouble with rusty's springs going bad, and rusty's not standing behind their products. i dont know if thats true or if he was BS'ing me because he gets a better price break on other brands or what. has anyone had any problems with rusty's springs? and to anyone who responds to that, how long have you had it? prior to that guy i'd only heard great things about rusty's

I dunno, whenever i hear anything about Rusty's its always a good thing. Prolly just BSing, making you buy from them insted of rusty's.

You might want to get another set of U-bolts for the rear axle/springs. I'm not comfortable re-using U-bolts.

You might want to ask Rusty's to throw in a set of shims for the rear axle to help straighten the pinion angle. I don't know if you will have to do a transfer case drop, I would try it with just a set of shims under the springs when you install them.

Take pics!!!!!
