hi im new at this whole off road thing. i jsut got a 2002 jeep wrangler x. i really want to get into offroading but i am not sure what to do about my suspension. i want to lift the car 3 inches and i was wondering what company makes a good lift kit that is durable and reliable. i am going to be offroading but also driving the car on road. does any one have sugestions on what kit i should use
thanx

I don't have any sugestions for a tj but welcome to the board.

My first suggestion would be to not call your Jeep a car. It's a Jeep! If your Jeep hears you call it a car, things will start breaking.

Welcome to the boards and congrats on the new JEEP.

i agree, never call your jeep a car. its definitely a jeep. and as for lifts, i would say check rubicon express. the guy that runs jeepin.com is a dealer for RE. good luck.

Check out suspension lifts by Rough Country, great working kits that won't break the bank. You can get a 3" or 4" kit for around $500.

There are sooooo many different lifts out there these days. My only personal experience is with BDS and I am very pleased with mine, however I would say all the above mentioned brands are decent. I would look for some of the better known brands with the lift height you need thats within your budget and get the one with the most features for the money. For example, some will come with swaybar quick disconnects which can run about $100 if bought seperately. Consider the warranty as well. The newer Wranglers can have vibration issues when lifted and the kits that come with control arms are supposed to be much better (for a price). I've heard and read that Pro Comp and Rancho lift kits are not very street friendly (rough ride). Anyways good luck with it, ask questions, let us know what you decide and we want pictures when it's done!

Is three inches all the lift you are planning for this Jeep, or is it just a start? How will this Jeep be used? Cruiser, dedicated trail rig, daily driver.....? A spring lift is the correct way to do it. You can't use an AA or shackle lift because you don't have leaf springs. Maybe some coil spring spacers and a 1" or 2" body lift if you are trying to stay low buck. There are plenty of happy people running that setup, there's nothing wrong with it.

For my suspension lift recommendation, I say Skyjacker. Every spring company has sold a crappy lift, it happens in production. But Skyjacker has excellent quality control and you are more likely to be happy with their product. The best off AND on road ride of any lift I've had experience with.
Rancho only has two products I would ever recommend, the 9000 series shocks and their 1" spring lift for CJs. That little one inch lift combined with a SOA and 3" body lift is just too sweet for words.

I agree with Junkpile, Skyjacker puts out great products. I have never experianced a lift of theirs but I do have shocks and a dual stabilizer. Rubicon Express would be second, they are a little pricey though. I say shop around, start flippin through the Quadratec catalog ( www.quadratec.com ) to get an idea of what you want and go from there. Good luck and welcome!
