i'll be installing my set of summers brothers axles starting tomorrow. going to be a lot of trial and error. am welcome to any pointers, opinions, and questions.

Are you installing them in an AMC 20?

going in the old AMC 20. replacing leaky x-brand one-piece shafts.

well I took a lot of pretty pictures but am having trouble getting them loaded here. I'll figure it out though! so whats happened so far is I pulled the passenger side axle shaft, the one that was leaking and had the fried bearing from brand-x, and tried to install the summers brothers axle. The axle went in easy enough but there was about half of an inch of end play. I hit myself in the head with a hammer about fifty times and then figured I should re-install the thrust block. I did this and then the hub stuck out too far by about 1/4 inch. I picked the hammer back up and have been pounding my forehead until I did a little reading and realized something. To get correct endplay you need to install the passenger side first and then apply shims to get proper backspacing on the drivers side. I still have the old brand-x shaft installed on the drivers side. Doh!! guess all that gear oil and brakleen have been saturating my grey matter. going to pull the drivers side and attempt a proper install from square one. I'll be taking lots of pics and hope that the hammer will help me figure out how to post them.
