Stupid Noob Soft Top Question

i have had my '03 Tj Sport since last August, and needless to say, didn't get much time to ride with a soft top last year!with the dawning of spring,i decided to play with my tops,so last week i shucked the hardtop, and put on the soft top without any side or rear curtains.the next day i pulled it so i could play with my bikini top/windjammer/duster combo.i loved it,but with the threat of severe thunderstorms imminent,i pulled that and went back with the soft top for rain protection, this time of course i left all side and rear curtains in.my question is this-i noticed when driving that that top billows up,which i assume is normal.but i also noticed that the rear side window curtains are"sucked-in",as if there is an external force shoving them inward.perhaps this too is normal?i passed by several other jeeps today, and didn't notice it on them, which makes me wonder!i mostly drive on the highway at 65-75 m.p.h. i should also add that this is a brand new bestop supertop, and i have the full hard doors.when i rolled down the driver's window, this situation seemed to worsen, which was opposite from what i thought would happen!it seems like wind rushing in would make the top billow up more, much like a parachute filling with air!is this a normal thing i should just accept,am i crazy?just want some info from some of you veteran Jeepers!

This is somewhat normal. With a window open or a window not sealed properly, you get a Bernoulli Effect. The wind rushing by creates a vacuum and sucks the windows inward. If this is occurring with the windows shut, look for your top not sealing somewhere. I normally see it around the rear window bottom corners not exactly lining up with the door. If this bothers you, you could turn on the blower and pressurize the cabin and the windows should puff outward. If it doesn’t there must be a good leak somewhere.

cool!i will try that blower thing tomorrow-didn't think about that!there might be some air leaking around somewhere,i wouldn't doubt that at all!i have noticed that the flap on the right rear continuously undoes itself(the one to right of tailgate)no matter what!don't ride much with all windows in,anyway-only when rain threatens!was just curious!thanks for the tips!

Just razzin' ya JPNinPA. I also see this. Just forget about it goldtj. It's a Jeep thang. You'll soon understand. That things gonna flap around, make alot of noise, pi$$ you off when a good song is on. Get used to it or: #1 run naked or #2 stick with the hard top.

thanks, bobcat!i just needed reassurance that it is normal, and fully expect to get razzed!did you notice the header!LOL!

Mine does the same thing... If you strip out the interior (rugs, back seat, console, etc) and open one drain plug in each floor pan you can ride all spring-summer-fall with no window curtains at all. I only have rear windows in the winter. Tip the front seats forward when you park on a rainy day\night to keep them from getting too wet. - John

I'm a relatively new Jeeper. Mine does that too. I don't worry about it. I only become concerned when I see flames or smell something funny besides myself.

(That's a joke. Actually I'm OCD about vehicle maintenance.)
